Certified VIN Inspector - Golden (Part-Time)

About the Work Unit The work unit provides vehicle VIN inspections to the public. As part of the Criminal Investigations Branch it helps deter fraudulent vehicle registrations, recover stolen vehicles, and interdict other crimes. About the Job The purpose of this position is to provide POST-certified VIN inspections. Key Responsibilities Perform VIN inspections on vehicles, including bonded titles, rebuilt vehicles, and kit-assembled vehicles. Inspect safety equipment and other special cases as required by the Department of Revenue. Inspect public and confidential VINs, verifying against state and national stolen vehicle databases. Confirm the authenticity of paperwork and ensure all inspection requirements are met. Complete and submit required paperwork to the Department of Revenue. Maintain certification and attend required training. Examine and confirm identities of vehicles titled in foreign states or countries. Maintain accurate financial records of all transactions. Check titles and related VIN documents for accuracy. Minimum Qualifications Three years of VIN inspection experience. Current Colorado POST certification as a Certified VIN Inspector in good standing. Or, a combination of related education and VIN inspection experience equal to three (3) years, with an unofficial transcript of the relevant education. Preferred Qualifications Experience in law enforcement, motor vehicle investigations, automotive technology, records management, compliance, or a related public‑safety field. Knowledge of Colorado motor vehicle laws, title procedures, and registration processes. Familiarity with NCIC/CCIC or other law‑enforcement databases. Conditions of Employment Must be a Colorado resident at the time of application. POST Certification as a Certified VIN Inspector required at the time of application or the ability to reinstate or obtain certification prior to appointment. No sponsorship for POST certification. Successful completion of a background investigation, including polygraph exam, driving history, fingerprint‑based criminal history search, and drug test. Valid Colorado driver’s license with no active restraints; may be required to drive a state vehicle.
