Big South Fork Medical Center is recruiting Registration Clerks.

The Registration Clerk is responsible for the accurate and efficient registration of hospital patients, ensuring that payments are timely and accurately posted to patient accounts, along with other administrative tasks related to patient visits. This position serves as the first point of contact for the hospital and is responsible for greeting patients and visitors, as well as directing them to the appropriate locations within the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Accurately register outpatients in the hospital’s McKesson patient registration system in accordance with established procedures.
• Verify, update, and maintain patient demographic and insurance information to ensure accurate billing and claims processing.
• Collect patient payments and co-payments, issue receipts, and reconcile cash drawer at the end of each shift.
• Enter patient charges accurately and timely into the McKesson system and respond to departmental feedback regarding corrections.
• Communicate with the billing and data processing departments to stay current on registration, billing, and system updates.
• Ensure completeness and accuracy of daily registrations, insurance data, and patient records.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient information and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
• Answer incoming telephone calls professionally and route inquiries to appropriate departments.
• Greet patients and families in a courteous, compassionate, and professional manner.
• Direct patients and visitors to appropriate departments following established protocols.
• Assist with retrieving medical records as needed.
• Maintain the Emergency Department patient logbook accurately and in real time.
• Report system issues, registration challenges, or billing discrepancies to appropriate departments.
• Contact patients regarding returned or undeliverable mail to update demographic information in the system.
• Promptly notify clinical staff of emergencies or urgent patient situations.
• Participate in required training, annual competencies, and demonstrate ongoing proficiency in job duties, including infection control and CPR (if applicable).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Prior experience in a healthcare, customer service, or administrative role preferred but not required
• Basic computer skills with ability to learn hospital registration systems
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
• Strong customer service skills with a professional and compassionate demeanor
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
• Basic math skills for handling cash, payments, and reconciliation
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
• Willingness to complete required training, including system use and compliance competencies
