Maintenance Technician IIIThe City of South Lake Tahoe is recruiting for multiple seasonal Maintenance Technician III to assist with our Streets department. This position will assist with patching, paving, painting, striping, replacing signs, and providing general street maintenance services. CDL license is preferred but not required. This position is anticipated to start in mid-May and end in early November 2026. Applications will be reviewed as they are accepted. This position will remain open until all vacancies have been filled.Under general supervision of assigned supervisory or management staff, provides a wide variety of journey skilled tasks in the maintenance of streets and other public service areas. Including, care, cleaning, maintenance, construction, and repair of assigned facilities and equipment.; performs the full range of required operation and maintenance duties, including operation of heavy equipment throughout the City. Street Maintenance Technicians may be required to work in all functional areas of maintenance (streets, parks, facilities, airport) and may be reassigned to any of the sections at any time for business or career development reasons. May exercise functional and technical supervision over lower level maintenance staff during specific project assignments.The following duties are typical for this classification. Maintenance Technician IIIPerforms skilled maintenance, repair and installation work related to street signs.Inspects all signing to locate needed repairs and corrections.Cleans and maintains the City's sign shop, sign truck and related equipment.Performs emergency repairs, as necessary and establishes proper traffic control devices in doing such work.Performs minor adjustments on service equipment; maintains tools and equipment in working order.Customer service and interaction with publicSafely operate majority of equipment within the Operations Division's functional areasReads, interprets, and conveys schematics, drawings, codes, safety notices, SDSBasic knowledge of building and civil codes, Cal-OSHA codes, MUTCD, Cal Trans Standards and specifications, agency permitting procedures, asbestos identification and testing procedures, lead paint identification and testing procedures and all other regulatory codes, policies, and procedures within functional area assigned inventory controlIf assigned to a specific area, may assist with projects being completed outside of assigned area.Safely operates all vehicles, equipment and tools within assigned functional areasPerforms layout of striping, signage, ditches, paving, walkways, forms, batter boards and all other lay out work required for providing finishes to meeting code complianceFabrication and installation of signs utilizing sign design equipment and plotters. Material storage and inventoryPaints complex traffic control markings such as crosswalks, lane stripes and parking zones on City streets and curbs;Performs paving asset condition assessments and data collection utilizing pavement management inspection criteria.Performs storm water infrastructure asset condition assessments and data collectionTMDL testing as assigned.NPDES reporting as assignedPerforms vehicle and equipment inspections at beginning of dayMay respond to emergency incidents involving Public SafetyMay be responsible for development of basic traffic control plans under supervisionInventory controlMay act as representative to concessionaires, focus groups, school districts, agencies, user groups, special events etc.May assist in project development including permittingMay assist with facility schedules and recreation programmingMay assist in all other functional areas as assignedThe conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. FREQUENT: balancing, crouching and talking; pushing/pulling of tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. OCCASIONAL: crawling, smelling; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling of tools and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.; lifting and carrying tools and equipment weighing over 100 lbs. with assistance.Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to see work orders and service requests, field conditions, equipment dials and gauges; operate vehicles and equipment; monitor telephone traffic conditions and mix chemicals.Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; ability to monitor sounds for traffic control and equipment malfunction; hear back-up alarms on trucks and other equipment, telephone and radio transmissions, and calls for assistance from others.Speaking: Communicate in English in person, by phone and radio to communicate with both the public and co-workers.
