We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant I or II to join our Sobering Center team in Salinas. What You'll Do
As Medical Assistant I or II, you will play a vital role in supporting client health, safety, and successful engagement.  Responsibilities include:
Client Care & Observation
•    Monitor clients according to program protocols and document observations.
•    Obtain and record vital signs.
•    Observe for signs of intoxication, withdrawal, illness, injury, or behavioral health concerns.
•    Report urgent medical situations to supervisors and emergency services as needed.
•    Conduct wellness checks and provide supportive engagement.
•    Assist clients in accessing basic needs and community resources. 
Recovery Support Services
•    Provide education and encouragement regarding recovery and available services.
•    Facilitate referrals to detoxification, residential treatment, outpatient treatment, mental health services, and community resources.
•    Promote dignity, respect, cultural responsiveness, and trauma-informed care. 
Safety & Facility Operations
•    Help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment.
•    Support crisis intervention and de-escalation efforts.
•    Assist with facility cleanliness and operations.
•    Support emergency preparedness and response activities. 
Administrative Support
•    Prepare intake packets and client forms.
•    Maintain organized client records and filing systems.
•    Participate in training, staff meetings, and quality improvement activities.
•    Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications
Education
One of the following is required:
•    Completion of a Medical Assistant training program; or
•    Completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training; or
•    Completion of Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) training; or
•    Completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training; or
•    Equivalent healthcare support training approved by Sun Street Centers. 

Experience
•    One (1) year of experience in healthcare, behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, residential care, recovery services, emergency services, or a related field. 
•    Experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders and behavioral health conditions preferred. 
•    If in recovery, applicants must meet agency requirements regarding continuous sobriety. 
Ideal Candidate
You are compassionate, dependable, calm under pressure, and committed to helping individuals on their recovery journey. You possess strong communication, observation, and documentation skills and can provide services in a culturally responsive and trauma-informed manner. 
Physical Requirements
•    Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and movement throughout the facility.
•    Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
•    Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and crisis situations.
•    Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
•    Ability to work evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
