Orthopedic Technician(40 hrs)(AFSCME)

Position Summary The orthopedic tech performs both administrative and patient care support for orthopedic patients. The tech assists with duties such as applying and removing casts, splints and braces, instructing patients on the use of crutches and tractions, under the direction and supervision of the Operations Manager and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice. The tech also gathers patient information for registration, schedules appointments, verifies demographic information, and assists in the facilitation of patient access to services. Position Orthopedic Technician Department Orthopedic Clinic Schedule Full Time Education Minimum of High School education or GED required Job Requirements Must pass clinical competency testing Successful completion of either an Orthopedic Technology program, a Medical Assistant program, military technical medic training, or at least one full year of coursework in allied health (including A&P) At least one year of on‑the‑job training in orthopedic‑related work At least two years of previous work experience Certifications, Licensures, & Registrations Must pass clinical competency testing Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience with cast and traction set‑up is preferred Ability to speak, read, and write English effectively Excellent customer‑service skills and the ability to communicate courteously, pleasantly, and professionally with patients, the general public, staff, outside agencies, and all other contacts Organizational skills to set priorities and complete assigned work efficiently Ability to interpret and use basic medical terminology and abbreviations Ability to work independently and make decisions based on department policies and established procedures Basic computer proficiency, including ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data Strict adherence to protocols for all confidential or sensitive information Hand dexterity, hearing, and visual acuity necessary to respond to patients or take direction from a provider; application and removal of casts and other orthopedic devices, adjustment of equipment, observation and description of patient observations; ability to lift up to 50 pounds Compensation $26.33–$34.75 per hour. This range estimates compensation based on minimum qualifications. Base pay considers education, experience, and licensure or certifications directly related to position requirements.
