Peer Support Specialist - 10-15 hours a week

Hope Haven is an accredited resource for disability services and advocacy. We offer service programs and support to meet a broad range of needs for children, adults, and families - from physical, mental, and intellectual to residential, vocational, and spiritual. POSITION OVERVIEW: Peer Support Specialist (PSS) must have or had a serious mental illness and be living well in recovery. This position provides peer support services, which includes providing emotional support, coaching and training, empowerment and advocacy, to persons with a serious mental illness in their homes and/or community settings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide support to other peers and assist them in reaching and maintaining their personal recovery goals.
- Promote self-determination and support peers in maintaining relationships and increasing a higher level of control and satisfaction over their lives.
- Promote skills for improving mental and physical wellbeing and increasing resiliency.
- Assist individuals with identifying and utilizing natural supports and community-based resources to reach and maintain their recovery.
- Collaborate with individuals to develop and implement their individualized treatment plan and coping/crisis plan
- When applicable, participate in interdisciplinary meetings of individuals on your caseload.
- Follow all safety procedures and promote safety measures among the team and peers.
- Timely filing of receipts and mileage into online platform.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Physical mobility to walk, stoop, stand, sit, and climb steps.
- Have or have had a serious mental illness and are living well in recovery.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a GED or high school diploma.
- Ability to complete required 40-hour Peer Support Specialist training within six months of hire.
- Knowledge and understanding of the "recovery" model of service delivery.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and have basic computer skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
- Reliable Transportation.
- Provide proof of state minimum liability insurance coverage.
- Valid Class C driver's license required, unless driving a vehicle with a capacity of 8 or more, then a Class "D" license will be required and be an insurable driver with our insurance company.
