Description

American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry RN for a busy 23-bed medical surgical unit requiring 2 years of post-op surgical experience and a KY or compact RN license.

Details

• 23-bed medical surgical unit caring for orthopedic, spine, general surgery, and bariatric patients
• Occasional overflow patients from medicine units when beds are available
• Fast-paced unit typically receiving 10-20 post-op admissions per day
• Unit equipped with cardiac and O2 monitoring capability
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:30
• Float to other units or nearby affiliate hospitals based on skillset
• Expected to work 3 out of 5 winter holidays

Requirements

• Active KY or compact RN license required
• 2 years of RN experience required in a related specialty
• BLS certification required
• Strong medical and surgical nursing skillset required
• Experience caring for post-op orthopedic and gastrointestinal surgery patients strongly preferred
• Must pass an EKG exam during onboarding
• First-time travelers considered only if they have several years of experience with post-op ortho and GI surgery patients
• At least one professional reference required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care for post-op surgical patients including cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and wound care
• Skills include IV therapy, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
• Respiratory care skills such as BiPAP/CPAP and tracheostomy management may be required
• Experience with feeding tube care, heparin protocols, and PCA management is relevant to this role
• Local candidates residing within 100 miles are not accepted for this position
• Previous permanent staff must have been separated from all UK-affiliated facilities for at least 6 months before returning as a traveler
• All requested time off must be disclosed prior to starting the assignment
