PBM Clinical Account Executive Pharmacist

Job Overview: As the Clinical Account Executive Pharmacist, you will serve as the primary clinical contact for an assigned portfolio of self-funded employer clients and their consultants and brokers. Working in close partnership with the account executive and cross-functional teams, you will translate complex clinical, utilization, and financial information into clear, actionable strategies that improve pharmacy benefit performance, support high-quality care, and control total pharmacy spend. You will lead clinical components of the client experience, including strategic planning, pharmacy trend reviews, quarterly and annual business reviews, implementations, renewals, and clinical escalations. This role requires a client-focused pharmacist who can interpret data, explain clinical and economic tradeoffs to both clinical and non-clinical audiences, identify opportunities for improved performance, and build trusted relationships that support client retention and SlateRx's continued growth. Responsibilities: Client Clinical Leadership and Relationship Management Serve as the primary clinical contact for assigned self-funded employer clients and their consultants and brokers, in partnership with the account executive. Develop a strong understanding of each client's objectives, member population, benefit design, clinical priorities, financial goals, and tolerance for change. Build and maintain trusted relationships by providing timely, accurate, practical, and objective clinical guidance. Lead the clinical components of quarterly and annual business reviews, consultant meetings, strategic planning sessions, and other client-facing engagements. Respond to clinical questions and escalations involving formulary coverage, utilization management, specialty medications, emerging therapies, benefit design, member impact, and treatment alternatives. Communicate complex clinical and financial concepts effectively to clinical and non-clinical stakeholders, including human resources, finance, benefits leaders, consultants, and executive audiences. Clinical Strategy and Pharmacy Benefit Optimization Evaluate pharmacy utilization, drug mix, prescribing patterns, emerging therapies, and cost drivers to identify opportunities to improve client performance. Recommend evidence-based clinical and benefit strategies that promote appropriate medication use, improve member outcomes, and reduce avoidable pharmacy spend. Advise clients on formulary strategy, utilization management programs, specialty cost management, therapeutic alternatives, site-of-care opportunities, GLP-1 management, and other applicable clinical solutions. Assess the clinical, financial, operational, and member implications of proposed program or benefit changes and clearly communicate the associated tradeoffs. Develop and maintain an individualized clinical strategy and action plan for assigned clients, including priorities, implementation timing, expected impact, and performance measures. Remain current on new drug approvals, pipeline developments, biosimilars, generic launches, clinical guidelines, regulatory changes, and market trends that may affect client strategy. Data Analysis, Reporting, and Performance Management Analyze pharmacy claims, utilization trends, clinical program results, and financial reporting to identify key drivers, emerging risks, and actionable opportunities. Prepare and deliver pharmacy trend presentations, clinical program updates, savings analyses, and recommendations tailored to each client's goals and level of clinical expertise. Evaluate program performance against established objectives and work with analytics, clinical operations, and account teams to investigate variances and improve results. Translate data into a clear narrative that explains what is occurring, why it matters, and what actions the client should consider. Track clinical recommendations, client decisions, implementation status, and realized outcomes to promote accountability and demonstrate value. Implementation, Renewal, and Growth Support Support new-client implementations by assessing clinical needs, reviewing benefit and formulary decisions, communicating transition considerations, and helping establish the client's clinical strategy. Partner with account management, clinical operations, analytics, implementation and other internal teams to ensure client commitments are clearly understood and executed. Provide clinical support during renewals, market checks, finalist presentations, and consultant discussions, including development and delivery of customized clinical content. Identify opportunities to improve performance of relevant SlateRx programs and services when they align with the client's clinical and financial objectives. Contribute client and market insights to the development or enhancement of clinical programs, reporting, educational materials, and organizational strategy. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy. Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Two to five years of experience in a client-facing managed care, PBM, health plan, consulting, or related pharmacy role. Demonstrated understanding of self-funded employer pharmacy benefits and the roles of plan sponsors, consultants, brokers, providers, pharmacies, members, and PBM partners. Working knowledge of formulary management, utilization management, specialty pharmacy, benefit design, pharmaceutical pricing, rebates, and pharmacy trend drivers. Experience interpreting pharmacy claims, utilization reports, financial analyses, clinical literature, and program-performance data. Strong presentation and consultative communication skills, with the ability to tailor complex information to clinical, benefits, financial, and executive audiences. Ability to develop credible recommendations, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a dynamic and growing organization. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, including the use of tables, charts, and figures to communicate findings. Ability and willingness to travel approximately monthly based on client and business needs. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting self-funded employer clients and working directly with pharmacy benefit consultants or brokers. Experience leading quarterly or annual business reviews, pharmacy trend presentations, implementations, renewals, or finalist presentations. Experience identifying and quantifying pharmacy cost-management opportunities and guiding clients through clinical benefit decisions. Board certification or other advanced managed care, ambulatory care, specialty pharmacy, or population-health credentials.
