About the Position

Job Title: Polysomnographic Technologist Profession: Clinical-Allied Specialty: Sleep Lab Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Sleep Lab License: Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) Certifications: - Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) - BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Sleep Lab Experience - Patient Care - Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) Interface Fitting - Patient Education - Diagnostic Testing Description: A sleep technologist provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This includes in-center and home sleep apnea testing. The technologist performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. They also provide comprehensive patient care. Education and support related to sleep are provided to patients and families. The sleep technologist can perform the duties defined for a sleep technician. They are also responsible for oversight of other staff in the sleep center. The sleep technologist is credentialed in sleep technology. Job Responsibilities: Document patient arrival, interactions, and consent for testing. Review and verify departmental orders for testing and insurance authorization. Review patient history and supporting documentation for medical necessity. Acquire and document additional information from the patient or ordering provider as needed. Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting, desensitization, and education. Prepare patients for testing according to policy, selecting appropriate equipment. Document routine observations during testing per policy. Correlate physiologic data and behavioral observations. Perform equipment and physiologic calibrations to ensure quality data. Monitor data quality to ensure recording is artifact-free. Perform equipment cleaning and disinfection. Implement appropriate interventions for patient safety and sleep-related therapy. Follow procedures to verify data integrity and complete test documentation. Develop and maintain effective working relationships. Communicate professionally and respectfully with all customers. Assist in requesting and maintaining testing supplies. Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events using accepted guidelines. Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data. Support and participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives. Follow procedural protocols for Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT). Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific care for all populations seen in the lab. Demonstrate proficiency in distinguishing sleep states and clinical events according to professional guidelines.
