Reports To: Deputy Chief of Staff and SVP, Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Corporation

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt  

Compensation: Stipend of $4,000 total for the duration of the program(equivalent to approximately $19.05/hour. This does not include lodging) 

Hours Per Week: 21 Hours 

Location: Atlanta, GA (Must be local to location of office)

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Job Overview:

The Office of the President intern will support the team with day-to-day operations, assist with ongoing projects, and contribute to process improvements. Responsibilities may include conducting research, drafting memos, preparing briefing materials, coordinating meetings, and assisting with special projects. The intern will gain exposure to nonprofit leadership, fundraising, higher education advocacy, and strategic organizational initiatives while working closely with senior staff in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

This internship includes project management, advisement, research, and execution of deliverables related to UNCF's priority Tikkun Olam programming. The intern will engage with Black and Jewish stakeholders to promote initiative planning and events.

Department Overview

The Office of the President at the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) provides executive leadership, strategic vision, and organizational oversight in advancing the mission to support HBCUs and increase access to higher education for African American students. It leads institutional priorities, stakeholder engagement, and national advocacy while guiding fundraising, public positioning, and cross-sector partnerships. It also works closely with the Board of Directors, senior leadership, and external partners to strengthen the organization's impact, sustainability, and visibility.

UNCF’s mission is to build a robust and nationally recognized pipeline of HBCU students who, because of UNCF support, become highly qualified college graduates. Since its inception in 1944, UNCF has raised over $6 billion in private support, distributed scholarships to help students attend school, and enabled more than 500,000 scholars and low-income students to graduate from UNCF’s member historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and launch professional careers. UNCF is committed to closing the educational attainment gap by increasing postsecondary access and success for student groups, particularly low-income and first-generation students.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

• Support Special Projects – Help coordinate initiatives, events, and strategic projects led by the President’s Office.
• Conduct Research & Prepare Briefings – Gather background information and draft briefing materials to support the President’s meetings and public engagements.
• Tikkun Olam Planning Support – Assist with the coordination and execution of a high-priority program, including logistics, scheduling, speaker outreach, engagement opportunities, and attendee communications.
• Final Project & Presentation -Lead a culminating project that synthesizes key learnings and contributions throughout the internship, with a final presentation delivered to stakeholders in the President’s Office.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

 

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in a relevant field. 
• Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher preferred. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Basic research and note-taking ability
• Attention to detail and ability to stay organized
• Ability to work well with others and follow directions
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Availability to work onsite during our core hours Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. 
• Availability for occasional evenings and weekends event(s).
