Job Title: Fab Tech Job Description

The Fab Tech is an entry-level, hands-on role that supports a wide range of automotive development activities, including vehicle assembly, metal fabrication and welding, and rapid prototyping using 3D printing. This position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who enjoys working with tools and is eager to learn new skills in a fast-paced, prototype-focused environment.

• Assemble and disassemble vehicle components while following detailed work instructions.
• Use basic hand tools and pneumatic tools to support prototype vehicle builds.
• Assist with the installation of mechanical, electrical, and fluid system components on development vehicles.
• Read and follow basic blueprints, drawings, and build sheets with training provided.
• Support the fabrication of brackets, fixtures, and prototype parts for automotive projects.
• Operate basic fabrication tools such as saws, grinders, drills, and shears to prepare and shape parts.
• Assist with part preparation, fit-up, and finishing to meet project specifications.
• Learn to safely perform basic MIG and TIG welding operations with provided training.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication work area in accordance with shop standards.
• Operate additive manufacturing and 3D printing equipment after training.
• Assist with 3D printed part post-processing, including sanding, trimming, fitting, and bonding.
• Perform basic part measurements and accurately record results for documentation and quality purposes.
• Support routine machine maintenance and help keep the prototyping lab organized.
• Perform maintenance technician tasks and basic automotive tech activities as needed.
• Assist with paint preparation tasks related to prototype and development vehicles.

• At least 1 year of experience in a hands-on technical, mechanical, or automotive environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in automotive technology.
• Experience using common hand tools and a willingness to learn fabrication and welding skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.
• Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and simple data entry.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform regular physical tasks such as bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, and walking.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a shop environment.
• High attention to detail and care in following procedures and safety guidelines.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new processes quickly in a dynamic setting.
• Ability to work safely around combustible liquids and in a workshop environment.
• Ability to drive a car as part of job-related activities.

• Automotive shop or technical school coursework is a plus.
• Experience with welding, fabrication, or machining is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with 3D printing technologies or CAD software is an advantage.
• Previous experience in automotive service, dealership, factory, or hobbyist automotive work is beneficial.
• Comfort working with maintenance technician tasks, automotive tech duties, and paint preparation work.
• Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs at a very strong level and 50 lbs at an expert level, as well as perform moderate levels of bending, crouching, pushing/pulling equipment, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, and walking.
• Comfort working in proximity to combustible liquids while adhering to strict safety protocols.

You will receive on-the-job training in assembly, welding, and additive manufacturing, giving you the opportunity to build valuable hands-on skills in a multidisciplinary technical environment. You will work directly on prototype and development vehicles, contributing to innovative projects and gaining experience with advanced automotive technologies. The role is based in a very clean workshop environment focused on testing and disassembly of current and future vehicle models. You will work with hand tools, pneumatic tools, fabrication equipment such as saws, grinders, drills, and shears, as well as additive manufacturing and 3D printing equipment. The work involves regular physical activity, including bending, crouching, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, pushing and pulling equipment, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, and walking. You may work around combustible liquids, but not compressed gases, extreme temperatures, or flammable gases, with appropriate safety measures in place. The environment emphasizes organization, cleanliness, and safe operation of tools and equipment, with a practical workshop attire suitable for hands-on fabrication, assembly, and prototyping tasks.

This is a Contract position based out of Raymond, OH.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
