License: Graduate of an accredited program in PA/SA or International Medical Graduate

Certifications: CPR certification required

Must-Have: Knowledgeable in surgical anatomy and physiology

Experienced in orthopedics, neuro/ortho spine, general/robotics, urology/gyn, and vascular surgery

Description: The Surgical Assistant works under the direct supervision of the surgeon. The Surgical Assistant must be knowledgeable in surgical anatomy and physiology. They should be proficient in operative technique relative to surgical procedures. Understanding the principles of asepsis and infection control is essential. The Surgical Assistant maintains clinical competence in the pre-op assessment. They are responsible for patient preparation and operation during the surgical procedure. The position requires active participation in room turnover. Proper positioning, draping, and prepping procedures must be demonstrated. Contributions to reducing surgical supply expenses are expected. The Surgical Assistant should follow established standards and recommended practices for infection prevention. Active engagement in the "Time Out" on all surgical cases prior to incision is crucial.
