Deputy Director

The Deputy Director, Office of Aviation Safety for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) supports the Aviation Safety Director in providing executive‑level management and oversight of the Office. This office investigates, analyzes, and proposes probable‑cause determinations of civil aviation accidents and incidents, and makes related safety recommendations. Executive‑level applicants must provide a two‑page resume that demonstrates progressively responsible supervisory, managerial, or professional experience over the past ten years, including leadership and management of a program or organization of significant scope and complexity. The resume must also demonstrate meeting the five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) and the Mandatory Technical Qualification (MTQ); failure to do so will result in an ineligible rating. If you are currently serving under a career SES appointment, are eligible for reinstatement into the SES, or have completed a SES Candidate Development Program and been certified by the OPM, your resume must clearly state that status and the year of certification. Proof of SES eligibility (e.g., SF‑50, OPM SES qualifications review board certification) must be attached. NOTE: Only the two‑page resume will be accepted. No additional documents addressing the ECQs or MTQ will be considered.

MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATION (MTQ)

Demonstrated experience in directing and managing civilian aviation accident and incident investigations, leading a highly technical workforce, and developing investigative reports with proposed safety resolutions involving commercial air carriers and general aviation.
