Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in an 18-bed mixed-acuity unit serving both ICU-status and step-down patients at nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 for fresh hearts and devices, 1:2 for ICU-status, and 1:3 for step-down patients
• Manage and titrate a broad range of vasoactive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and anticoagulation drips including Cardizem, Cordarone, Epinephrine, Levophed, Vasopressin, Heparin, Propofol, and others
• Care for patients with diagnoses including atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, NSTEMI/STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, post-cardiac and thoracic surgery (CABG, valve repair, VATS, lobectomy), and pulmonary embolism
• Manage mediastinal and chest tubes, arterial lines, temporary pacemakers, ventilators, and CRRT
• Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips every 4 hours; respond to monitor alarms in coordination with off-unit monitor techs using Philips monitoring systems
• Float as needed, primarily to ACU and ICU, with occasional float to Med-Surg and Telemetry units

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Minimum experience with post-operative open heart patients greater than 6 hours out from surgery
• Demonstrated experience with CRRT, temporary pacemakers, post-permanent pacemaker care, acute MI pre/post-cath, mediastinal/chest tubes, mechanical ventilation, hypothermia protocol, and arterial lines
• Experience titrating vasoactive and critical care drips
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius per facility policy; valid unexpired driver's license required at submission

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Fresh open heart experience (direct from OR)
• IABP and/or Impella experience
• Hemodynamic monitoring and Swan-Ganz catheter experience
