Job Title: MIG Welder Custom Aluminum and Steel Fabrication Job Description

This role focuses on MIG welding aluminum and steel components for custom car wash canopies, poles, signage, bases, and structural assemblies. You will perform the majority of welding on aluminum, working from blueprints and work orders in a prototype and custom fabrication environment, ensuring accurate, high-quality welds on structural parts up to 1/2 inch thick.

• Perform MIG welding on aluminum (approximately 90% of the work) and steel (approximately 10%) for canopies, poles, signage, bases, and related structures.
• Weld components up to 1/2 inch thick, ensuring strong, clean, and structurally sound welds that meet quality and safety standards.
• Work from blueprints, diagrams, and work orders to understand job specifications, dimensions, and weld requirements.
• Set up and adjust MIG welding equipment, including speed and temperature settings, specifically for aluminum and steel welding applications.
• Carry out post and tube welding in a prototype and custom shop environment, producing one-off or small-batch components.
• Measure and verify materials using a tape measure to ensure correct dimensions prior to and after welding and assembly.
• Fit, assemble, and weld flat and structural components, including structural steel and aluminum, according to provided drawings.
• Use hand tools and power tools, such as impacts and drills, to assist with fabrication, fitting, and assembly tasks.
• Handle and move components weighing up to 50 pounds safely throughout the welding and assembly process.
• Follow production schedules and work orders to complete jobs accurately and on time, maintaining consistent output.
• Inspect welds and assemblies for quality, making adjustments or repairs as needed to meet specifications.
• Collaborate with team members across manufacturing, shipping/receiving, assembly, and testing areas as needed.
• Follow all safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of welding and fabrication equipment.
• Remain attentive and focused during work hours, avoiding distractions such as cell phone use except during designated breaks.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area within the warehouse and fabrication environment.

• At least 3 years of MIG welding experience on aluminum.
• Proven ability to weld materials up to 1/2 inch thick with consistent quality.
• Experience working in a prototype or custom shop environment.
• At least 2 years of experience with post and tube welding.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and work orders.
• Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure for fabrication and assembly.
• Demonstrated ability to set up MIG welding machines, including selecting correct speed and temperature settings for aluminum.
• Hands-on experience with structural steel, production welding, and fabrication.
• Proficiency in MIG welding processes on aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.
• Ability to perform fitting, structure assembly, and weld preparation tasks.
• Capability to stand on concrete for extended periods while performing welding and assembly work.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing work orders correctly and safely.

• Certified welding credential or certification.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond in daily tasks.
• Experience using hand tools such as impact wrenches, drills, and similar equipment.
• Comfort working with flat components and structural assemblies in a production environment.
• Interest in taking initiative and potentially stepping into a team lead role over time.

This position operates on a first shift schedule, typically from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the potential to work until 5:00 p.m. when overtime is available, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays. Work takes place in a warehouse and manufacturing environment where large signs and parts are staged for development or shipment. The facility is not temperature controlled, so it tends to be cooler in winter and warmer in summer, but it remains clean and well-organized. The building is divided into manufacturing, shipping/receiving, assembly, and testing areas, and you may work in any of these spaces as needed. Welders receive blueprints or diagrams along with aluminum, stainless steel, or steel base materials and weld mostly flat components to create poles, signage, bases, canopies, and other structural elements. Components can weigh up to 50 pounds and are welded using company-provided welding equipment; you will need to bring your own welding mask. Cell phone use is not permitted during work hours and is limited to designated breaks to ensure focus and safety. Breaks include a 30-minute unpaid lunch and two paid 10-minute breaks. The dress code is casual, allowing appropriate jeans and T-shirts, with safety glasses (with side shields) and hearing protection provided. Steel-toe boots are required, and you will spend most of the day standing on concrete while performing welding and assembly tasks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Warren, MI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
