POSITION OVERVIEW

The Technology Infrastructure section of the Houston Airport System (HAS) is a service support organization responsible for augmenting the strategic capital program planning, and the design of construction with respect to technology infrastructure initiatives. We are responsible for the documentation and management of all telecommunication infrastructure assets and ensure their integrity toward facilitating all forms of communication traffic. We also support/maintain all HAS networks to include Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), and Local Area Network (LAN).

DESCRIPTIONS OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Senior IT Professional is part of the Technology Infrastructure Division of the Houston Airport System (HAS) and provides network support services: Administrator, monitor and maintain 665+ Cisco network switches/firewalls/network monitoring tools both wired and Aruba wireless across the 3 airports. Provide 24/7 network support to ensure network access for the Houston Airport System. Supported by network team: HAS Users, Tenants, Servers, CCTV Security Cameras, Badge Access System, Flight Information Display (FIDS), Perimeter Intrusion System, IP Phones with PBX, IP PA Mics, Fire Alarm System, HVAC Monitoring, HAS Internet access, Tenant Internet Service, Wireless HAS Access utilizing Aruba Wireless Solutions. Support security tools services: VPN via Cisco FPR-3100 using RSA tokens, Cisco FPR-3100 and Cisco firepower firewalls, Palo Alto firewall / FireEye Appliance. Support network device management tools: SolarWinds Fault Alerting, Performance Monitor, and Configuration manager. Support the redundant Internet connection which are load balanced which provides connectivity for all of Houston Airport System. Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.

TECHNICAL EXPERT

Has advanced technical certifications that demonstrate mastery of a specialized infrastructure discipline. Typically participates in industry/technical user groups. Proactively resolves highly complex technology problems by providing expert technical advice. May serve as the highest level of escalation internally. This position is routinely expected to provide guidance, technical support, and find creative solutions to a variety of business needs.

OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE

Oversees a variety of highly complex analytical and technical assignments; provides subject matter expertise and advice for assigned technology and infrastructure systems. This position plans, manages, and implements infrastructure projects and upgrades, designs and documents infrastructure processes, procedures, and standards. Ensures effectiveness of infrastructure by performing preventive maintenance work and monitoring system performance; diagnosing problems; working with external vendors and COH departments; and supporting back-ups for a variety of technologies, business units, and systems.

STRATEGY

Understands how technology infrastructure systems support business objectives. Drives innovation and creative solutions by providing value propositions. Influences the strategy, acts as a technical thought leader in specialized areas. Implements best practices and uses knowledge of internal and external technology challenges and opportunities to drive business transformation. Addresses risks, limitations and vulnerabilities.

TEAM EFFORT

Contributes to the Information Technology team effort by accomplishing specific goals and performing related responsibilities as needed. The Senior IT Professional - Infrastructure position provides coaching, mentoring to other Server Team admins as well as Desktop leads when appropriate. Team Effort is more than being a team player; it is a willingness to assist the organization to succeed, to offer assistance outside of normal scope, and it is being available when needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. May occasionally require work in outdoor environment. Occasionally louder noise as found in a data center situation. May require lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field. Information systems-specific technical certifications may be substituted for 1 year of either the education or the experience requirement, as applicable. Related professional Information Systems experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

At least six (6) years of technology experience supporting IT infrastructure. Valid system-specific technical certifications required. Advanced certifications and applicable work experience beyond six (6) years may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the education requirement. System-specific technical certifications may be considered for substitution for 1 year of experience. A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.
