- # **Department:**SOM KC Internal Medicine - Administration-----Internal Medicine Genetic, Environmental and Inhalational Disease## **Position Title:**Post Doctoral Fellow – Internal Medicine (GEID)## **Job Family Group:**Professional Staff## **Job Description Summary:**The Post Doctoral Fellow will work in Dr. Ana Maria Jaramillo lab in the Division of Genetic, Environmental, and Inhalational Disease. The laboratory works on mucin trafficking mechanisms in the airway epithelium. This position focuses on both research and lab management, with approximately 80% of the time dedicated to research projects.## **Job Description:****Job Duties****Research Overview:** Design and conduct experiments and interpret data under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator (PI).* Design and carry out cell culture and rodent-based research projects.* Develop and troubleshoot research protocols.* Analyze experimental data and interpret results for use in publications, grant applications, and determining the next steps in the research.* Perform cellular and molecular biology experiments pertaining to define the molecular mechanisms of mucin trafficking in the airway epithelium.* Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.* Collaborate with the PI to design and execute independent experiments.* Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, procedures, results, and other relevant research information**Expectations:** The Postdoc will be expected to complete research projects under the guidance of the faculty mentor, record and interpret the results of their experiments in an (electronic) laboratory notebook, prepare publication-quality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peer-reviewed literature.* Read literature articles, develop new ideas, and assimilate the information into his/her project design/interpretation.* Dissemination of studies: Interact on a regular basis with their PI, faculty mentor and members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.* Present research aims and findings at department seminars and at local and national scientific meetings. Write and publish their results as first author in abstracts, manuscripts, and posters.**Compliance:** Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Furthermore, job duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.**Required Qualifications****Education:** Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.* This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.**Work Experience:** Cell culture, animal handling, microscopy and standard wet lab experience.**Preferred Qualifications****Work Experience:*** Experience with microscopy and immunohistochemistry.* Experience working with human bronchial epithelial cells.**Skills:*** Interpersonal skills* Organization* Communication* Time management \* Attention to detail**Required Documents:*** Resume/CV* Cover Letter**Comprehensive Benefits Package:**Coverage begins on day one for health, dental, and vision insurance and includes health expense accounts with generous employer contributions if the employee participates in a qualifying health plan. One paid discretionary day is available after six months of employment, and paid time off for bereavement, jury duty, military service, and parental leave is available after 12 months of employment. A retirement program with a generous employer contribution and additional voluntary retirement programs (457 or 403b) are available.## **Employee Type:**Regular## **Time Type:**Full time## **Rate Type:**Salary**Compensation Statement:**The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding.
