Assistant Athletic Trainer

Assist with planning, coordinating, and supervising all components of an athletic training program for student athletes. Work under the advice and consent of a team physician to carry out the practices of prevention, evaluation, emergency treatment, physical reconditioning, and rehabilitation of injuries.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree Valid license from Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check

Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form Ability to provide injury prevention and rehabilitation services Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and ability to treat student athletes Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Experience: Two years athletic training experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Assist in planning & implementing a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program for student athletes.

2. Attend practice sessions and athletic events as assigned by the athletic director or head athletic trainer.

3. Establish and maintain effective communications with students, parents, medical and paramedical personnel, coaches, and other staff.

4. Provide physical conditioning training to student athletes.

5. Respond to emergencies and make quick, independent judgments about how to deal with injuries.

6. Fit injured athletes with specialized equipment and oversee its use.

7. Detect and resolve environmental risks to athletes.

8. Identify acute injuries and provide first-aid triage.

9. Determine therapeutic goals and objectives for individual student athletes.

10. Apply therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on proper use of exercise equipment.

11. Assist in evaluating and recording rehabilitation progress of athletes; develop criteria for progression and return to practice and competition.

12. Follow the professional, ethical, and legal parameters regarding the use of drugs and therapeutic agents for treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes.

13. Assist in coordinating the scheduling of athletic physical examinations and screening.

14. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized records, reports, and other documents including medical, accident, and treatment records as required.

15. Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.
