The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Budget Officer II within the Office of Budget and Planning. As Budget Officer II, the successful candidate will help prepare the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) budget by supporting various bureaus and divisions in completing budget documents. This includes helping ensure that submissions are accurate and in line with accounting principles, departmental policies, and the instructions from the Budget Director. The position will also assist in managing MDE's office budgets and federal grant awards. Additionally, the candidate will help establish and maintain departmental budgets, as well as oversee federal and special grant awards. Key duties include providing support to Bureau Directors, Superintendents of state schools, and other departmental personnel on budget-related matters. The individual will assist with monitoring office supplies, reordering as needed, and maintaining the inventory of office equipment. Special projects will also be assigned as needed.

What you'll need to be successful:

• Knowledge of MAGIC System or Accounting System.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with various stakeholders.
• Effective communication skills both written and oral.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and complete assignments on time.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and mobile applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of experience.
• Experience with completing GAAP Accounting Reconciliations.
