Overview The Office of the University Chaplains at Colgate University serves as a campus hub for nurturing communities of spiritual practice, fostering inter-religious understanding, and sustaining a vibrant multi-faith environment. Based at the M. Saperstein Jewish Center, the Jewish life program supports an engaged student body, faculty, staff, and local residents representing diverse Jewish traditions. The chaplaincy staff and the Colgate Jewish Union work to create an inclusive, welcoming space for meaningful holiday observance, regular spiritual practice, and communal connection within our residential liberal arts environment. For more information, please visit our Religious Communities page: Responsibilities Provide religious leadership and logistical support for campus communities during major fall religious observances, ensuring gatherings are inclusive and aligned with university parameters. Lead egalitarian religious services designed to encourage communal participation, blending traditional and diverse melodies for participants from various backgrounds. Serve as a primary chanter or reader for sacred texts, coordinating shared reading segments with staff, student leaders, and community members. Offer opportunities for teaching, study, or discussion during designated holiday periods. Partner with student leaders and campus staff to share leadership responsibilities, facilitate student involvement, and support student‑led components of programming. Assist with venue setup, breakdown, materials distribution, and general operational hospitality for community events and seasonal meals. Welcome and direct students, faculty, and university guests to ensure an orderly, inclusive, and hospitable environment. Requirements Professional Experience / Qualifications Open to rabbinic/cantorial students, non-congregational clergy, or other experienced religious service leaders and event coordinators. Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, student-centered campus environment. Ability to follow operational and safety protocols independently. Compensation Compensation: Base compensation of $7,500, plus university‑provided travel, lodging, and meals.
