Controller | Multi-Unit Food & Beverage Cartel Roasting Co. | Tempe, Arizona Full-Time | Exempt Salary: $85,000-$110,000 annually Cartel Roasting Co. is looking for an experienced Controller to lead our accounting function and help turn financial information into better business decisions across our growing, multi-unit organization. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable digging into the details of a reconciliation, improving an accounting process, and sitting down with operational leaders to explain what the numbers are telling us. You’ll be responsible for the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting while building the systems, controls, and reporting that allow our teams to better understand and manage the business. Experience in restaurants, food and beverage, hospitality, or another multi-unit environment is especially valuable. Our business involves inventory, cost of goods sold, labor, location-level performance, fixed assets, cash reconciliation, and the wonderfully complicated financial reality of operating multiple locations. What You’ll Do Lead the month-end close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and preparation of financial statements Prepare, review, and analyze financial results for accuracy, completeness, and meaningful trends Develop financial reporting and analysis at both the company and individual location level Identify variances, risks, and opportunities and translate financial data into clear, actionable information for leadership Manage cash flow reporting and forecasting and provide visibility into anticipated cash needs and financial obligations Oversee accounting for inventory, cost of goods sold, labor, fixed assets, and other areas specific to a multi-unit food and beverage business Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including approvals, collections, processes, and financial controls Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations across bank accounts, credit cards, debt, fixed assets, inventory, and other key accounts Partner with operational leaders on budgets, spending, forecasting, and financial performance Build and continually improve accounting processes, procedures, systems, and internal controls Manage applicable sales and transaction privilege tax filings and other accounting-related regulatory requirements Oversee required business licenses, regulatory filings, and insurance administration across company operations Lead and develop members of the accounting team, establishing clear responsibilities, deadlines, processes, and expectations Support special projects and financial analysis as the needs of the business evolve What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field 5+ years of accounting or related experience 2+ years of demonstrated leadership experience Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, financial reporting, and internal controls Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn complex information into useful insights Experience working with financial and operational KPIs, budgets, forecasts, and financial performance Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with both financial and non-financial leaders Strong computer and software skills; experience with QuickBooks and Excel is important, and familiarity with Paylocity and Asana is a plus Especially Great If You Have Experience in a restaurant, coffee, food and beverage, hospitality, retail, or other multi-unit organization where you’ve worked directly with inventory, COGS, labor, sales reconciliation, and location-level financial performance.
