Corrections Registered Nurse (RN)

The Correctional RN works in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, correctional officers, and administrators to ensure the well-being of the incarcerated population. The Correctional RN utilizes their knowledge to address the specific challenges and limitations of the correctional environment while providing care to their patient population. This care includes both routine and emergency health care in a correctional facility setting.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices

• Minimum of one year of correctional health care experience preferred

• Current CPR if applicable

• TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age

Position Overview

The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) for contract opportunities at multiple correctional facilities across Virginia. Opportunities are available on both day and night shifts, offering flexibility for local and travel healthcare professionals.

Candidates must have a minimum of one year of nursing experience . Previous correctional nursing experience is preferred but not required.

Schedule & Assignment Details

• Shift Options: Days and Nights

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts

• Hours: Full-time schedules available

• Weekend Requirement: Varies by facility

• Contract Length: 26 weeks

Requirements

• Active RN license

• Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience

• Previous corrections experience preferred

• BLS certification

• Strong assessment, communication, and documentation skills

• Ability to work in a secure correctional healthcare environment
