Position Summary

The Substation Engineer will lead substation and mediumtohigh voltage power projects (12kV-345kV) both locally and nationwide. This role supports all phases of project execution-from feasibility studies through final design-while coordinating junior engineer assignments, communicating with endusers, providing technical expertise, and ensuring successful project delivery. Responsibilities include design and analysis of electrical systems such as preliminary layouts, singleline and threeline diagrams, protection and control (P&C) guidance, dimensional drawings, foundation and structural steel coordination, ground grid analysis, lightning protection, belowgrade and abovegrade design, and equipment selection. The engineer must be wellversed in applicable codes and standards and capable of working independently with minimal oversight.
Responsibilities
• Work within company engineering standards, policies, and procedures. • Perform field investigations and document existing site conditions. • Coordinate multidiscipline design teams to produce conceptual designs, drawing packages, and technical specifications. • Develop rough orderofmagnitude estimates and support sales with proposal efforts. • Provide engineering direction and design input for complete drawing packages. • Execute engineering calculations including ground grid analysis, shortcircuit studies, protective device coordination, lightning protection studies, and load flow analysis. • Prepare detailed equipment schedules, oneline diagrams, threeline diagrams (AC/DC elementary), station elevations, clearance checks, and duct bank details. • Oversee preparation of drawing packages for Schematic Design, Design Development, and 30/60/90 IFC milestones. • Participate in project kickoff meetings to review deliverables, milestones, and design requirements with management. • Collaborate with subcontractors on designbuild projects, review drawings, respond to construction inquiries, and support estimating. • Attend engineering meetings and respond promptly to client communications. • Mentor and support junior engineering staff.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of electrical power engineering experience (12kV-345kV). Strong midlevel candidates with 4-7 years are ideal. • Experience leading projects and managing project deliverables. • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in substation and power system design. • Advanced understanding of electrical systems, design principles, and power flow. • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook. • Experience using calculation tools such as ETAP, SKM, WinIGS, or EasyPower. • Familiarity with all design phases: schematic design, design development, and construction documents. • Strong understanding of NESC and IEEE standards. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education & Certification
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. • Advanced degree or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus but not required.
