Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Prior experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in educational settings
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and sensitivity towards diverse communication needs
- Registration or licensure requirements for interpreters in Washington State (or eligibility to obtain)
- Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and discretion
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instructions, discussions, and activities between students, teachers, and school staff
- Facilitate communication during meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
- Support individualized learning plans by adapting sign language to meet specific student needs
- Collaborate with educational teams, counselors, and parents to encourage student participation and progress
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting
