Storion is a battery component manufacturer specializing in vanadium electrolyte production and assembly of stack-power assemblies that serve the flow battery industry in the US. We strive to drive flow battery adoption through cost effective, readily available electrochemistry components required in large scale flow batteries.Reporting through the manufacturing engineering team, you will directly support the design, development, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment and processes. You will work alongside chemical, electrical, and controls engineers as we scale a novel production process from pilot to full operations and support the future expansion of deployed manufacturing sites. Apply to learn more about our new projects for the upcoming year where you'll play a key role in our manufacturing plants and other key initiatives.ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Equipment EngineeringSupport mechanical design packages for existing and new production equipment associated with Storion ManufacturingConvert process requirements into mechanical specifications for production equipmentDesign mechanization for integrated and stand-alone assembly equipmentDesign and build tooling, workholding, and jigs for manufacturing workcellsDesign pneumatic and electrical circuitry to support equipment mechanization, including component specificationsProduce 3D models and 2D drawings of parts and assembliesDemonstrate concepts through sketches, mock-ups, and prototypesProduce/Build/Assemble prototypes using in-house 3-axis CNC, laser cutter, 3D printers, and other manual machining techniquesInventory and maintain in-house machine tooling stockValidate designs through testing and trialsApply engineering best practices for modeling and/or design of experiments to limit design iterationsPerform analytical work associated with mechanical engineering: static and dynamic stress analysis, FEAs, etc.Continuous Improvement & Project ExecutionManage manufacturing and facility projects, including establishing deliverables, distributing RFQs, planning, selecting resources, tracking budget constraints, and ensuring on-time completionLead efforts in continuous improvement to reduce setup time, reduce scrap, improve processing, and increase product yieldSupport equipment redesign efforts targeting business CAPEX and OPEX objectivesDevelop upgrade plans for manufacturing equipment and support rollout across similar equipmentSpecify and validate component selections in equipment designs and for plant operationsIdentify and implement cost reduction opportunities while maintaining or improving quality standardsOperations & Technical SupportDevelop a thorough understanding of the processes at our facilitiesAssist in the design and implementation of process improvements with a hands-on approachSupport maintenance department personnel in training and equipment re-engineering activitiesDevelop relationships with external equipment vendors and suppliersIsolate critical data outputs of the process and define indicators of key process performanceGenerate and maintain documentation, including files, revisions, and editsFoster strong relationships with members of the product engineering team, operations team, and vendorsWork at all levels across the organizationQualificationsEducation, Experience, Certifications:BS or greater in Mechanical Engineering or related field2–5 years of hands-on experience in process or manufacturing engineeringExperience in a manufacturing or industrial facility is preferredSix Sigma certification is a strong plusTechnical Skills:Proficiency in 3D modeling; SolidWorks preferredExperience with CAM generation; MasterCAM preferredUnderstanding of fundamental design calculations and techniquesProficiency in generating applicable tolerances and tolerance analysis toolsAbility to work with and operate a manual end mill, 3-axis CNC, CNC laser cutter, and 3D printingCapability to work with and write programming languages; Python preferredStrong computer skills, including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and database softwareCompetencies:Demonstrated ability to analyze processes for improvements in efficiency, product quality, equipment layout, workflow, and safetyExperience developing training and technical documents to present and/or instruct others on new process changes or machine modificationsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approachSelf-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentHands-on mentality with willingness to work on the production floorProven record of operating independently with minimal supervisionWork EnvironmentYou will work in both office and manufacturing environments.
