This role partners across Optum Care Delivery Organizations and the national Pharmacy team to support a growing rebate program with significant financial impact. The Actuarial Consultant will help evaluate rebate performance, measure year-over-year improvement, and ensure financial results are accurately reflected in forecasting and affordability reporting. Working closely with finance, accounting, operational, and pharmacy partners, this individual will drive analytical insights, enhance financial reporting and forecasting capabilities. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys translating data into actionable insights and influencing business decisions.You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.Primary Responsibilities: Lead the financial analysis and performance measurement of the rebate program, including monitoring actual results, forecast performance, and variances to plan and budgetDevelop and maintain actuarial models used to forecast, track, and evaluate affordability performance, risks, and opportunitiesTranslate complex clinical and pharmacy initiatives into analytical frameworks that quantify incremental value and business impactExtract, analyze, and interpret claims and financial data from multiple sources to support strategic decision-makingAssess performance drivers to distinguish the impact of underlying trends from operational initiatives and affordability actionsSolid ability to partner with clinicians, pharmacists and operators on translating clinical concepts and interventions into a solid, financial model that can be measured appropriatelyAbility to critically evaluate proposed initiatives, challenge unsupported assumptions, and provide independent assessment of modeling approaches to ensure confidence in projected financial resultsPrepare clear financial reporting, insights, and recommendations that support forecasting, leadership decision-making, and affordability strategyTake ownership of complex modeling and financial performance issues from discovery and analysis through recommendation, implementation, and follow-upCommunicate analytical findings and actionable insights effectively to business, finance, and operational stakeholdersYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field3+ years of experience in corporate actuarial, finance, FP&A, financial analysis, accounting, or a related analytical roleExperience building actuarial models in SQL (Structured Query Language), SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-look up, formulas, and graphs in Excel)Experience conducting complex financial analysis involving claims, performance metrics, forecasts, trends, and variancesDemonstrated analytical skills with solid attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrityDemonstrated ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance partnersPreferred Qualifications: Associate of the Society of Actuaries designationExperience supporting pharmaceutical rebate programsDemonstrated ability to be self motivated, inquisitive, and quick to learn new business concepts, with a proactive approach to taking initiativeExperienced with any of the following: Underwriting, Financial Reporting, Government Programs, Medicare Advantage (MA) products, Medicare Bids, and/or VBC modeling*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
