Job Summary and Qualifications

The Resource Nurse is instrumental in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care by providing feedback, mentorship, and guidance to new graduate nurses and those transitioning to different specialties. This role supports multiple units and ensures adherence to the hospital's nursing standards, policies, and procedures, thereby meeting all accreditation and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing, over 1 year of experience in a leadership role, and more than 1 year of experience as a preceptor.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• Must be currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice or possess an active compact license, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Preceptor Training within 90 days of hire.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 30 days of hire.
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training within 90 days of hire.
• Business Emergency Response Training (BERT) within 90 days of hire.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 12 months of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 12 months of hire.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engage in the execution of nursing care plans by delivering both direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Collect and document initial and ongoing patient information throughout their care journey, including vital signs, admissions data, and other relevant metrics.
• Record observations, interactions, and patient responses, reporting any significant changes to the RN or Team Leader.
• Assist with patient mobility through regular repositioning, ambulation, and the use of mobility aids.
• Provide non-medicated support care, including dressing changes, skin protection, and oxygen delivery.
• Perform basic support tasks such as oral suctioning, catheterization, and wound care, increasing task complexity as competency is demonstrated.
• Assist in specimen collection for diagnostic tests, ensuring proper labeling and timely transfer.
• Retrieve medications from the pharmacy or storage and deliver them to licensed staff as directed.
• Help prepare patients for surgical procedures.
• Support patients with daily living activities, including eating, bathing, and grooming.
• Conduct hourly rounds and respond promptly to patient requests, anticipating needs proactively.
• Adhere to safety and security protocols, including hand hygiene and the use of personal protective equipment.
• Maintain clean and safe patient environments by managing waste and soiled linens.
• Assist with patient and family education, identifying barriers to learning and integrating this into care plans.
• Translate complex medical terminology to ensure understanding among patients and their families regarding conditions, treatment plans, and medications.
