Billing Specialist

Responsible for submitting claims and following up with insurance companies. Job Functions Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper. Answer questions from patients, insurance companies and clerical staff. Identify and resolve patient billing complaints. Prepare, review and send patient statements. Follow and report status of delinquent accounts. Perform various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers. Participate in educational activities and attend monthly staff meetings. Conducts self in accordance with North Sunflower Medical Center's employee manual. Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations Skills/Experience Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices. Knowledge of computer programs. Knowledge of business office procedures. Knowledge of basic medical coding and third party operating procedures and practices. Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment. Skill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public. Must be well organized and detail oriented. Exemplify excellent customer service with patients, visitors and other employees to show courtesy, friendliness, helpfulness, and respect. Maintain and ensure patient privacy and confidentiality. Take initiative to be proactive in assisting others without direct supervision and to resolve problems with other departments and co-workers. Ensure building is clean, organized and presentable for patients and visitors. Perform other duties as assigned.
