Position Title RN - Registered Nurse - Surgical Transplant - Full Time - Nights Department Surgical/Transplant Overview An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing top‑quality care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. The role supports the entire organ transplant process, delivering pre‑ and post‑operative care for liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant candidates. Essential Responsibilities Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards. Assume responsibility for assigned patients or patient groups. Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assist physicians in examinations of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe physiological manifestations, and intervene when necessary. Administer medications as prescribed. Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products. Deliver patient care safely and competently. Resolve patient complaints promptly in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff. Inform patients and families of hospital procedures and share care plans during care and at discharge. Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Foster a growth mindset through mentorship, openness to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure. Develop a professional career plan and set personal performance goals aligned with enterprise‑wide metrics, measuring progress with department leadership. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications (RN I): Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience: 0‑3 years of patient care as an RN. License/Certification: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a multistate compact RN; Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Minimum Qualifications (RN II): Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience: 3‑5 years of patient care as an RN. License/Certification: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a multistate compact RN; Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Minimum Qualifications (RN III): Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required; Master's Degree in Nursing preferred. Experience: 5+ years of patient care as an RN. License/Certification: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a multistate compact RN; Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire; Specialty certification(s) preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients. Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient’s best interest. Ability to engage and manage conflicts and disagreements constructively. Ability to maintain compliance accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
