ACM/IMP Wall Panel Installer
Global Roofing Group
Walk-ins welcome. Apply in person at our corporate office, 2401 E. Magnolia St., Phoenix, AZ 85034, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Journeyman IMP Installer is the craftsperson who turns engineered shop drawings into a finished, weathertight, plumb-and-true insulated metal panel wall. This is not a general labor role. It is a skilled trade position for a mechanic who can read an erection drawing, set a control line, hang a 40-foot panel without racking it, close a side joint correctly the first time, and know — by feel and by eye — when something is starting to drift before it becomes a rework claim.
Our panels are the visible face of the building. Every joint we leave behind is inspected by an owner, an architect, and a general contractor who will decide whether Global gets the next project. The Journeyman IMP Installer carries that standard on the wall every day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Layout, Preparation & Substrate Verification
Read and work from approved shop drawings, erection drawings, panel schedules, and panel tag/mark numbers; verify panel marks against wall elevations before setting.Establish and verify control lines, benchmarks, and module layout using laser level, transit, string line, and tape; confirm building lines are square, plumb, and within tolerance before the first panel goes up.
Survey and document substrate conditions — girt spacing and alignment, embed and clip locations, out-of-plane conditions, sub-girt/hat channel and thermal clip installation — and report deviations to the Foreman in writing before proceeding.
Shim, align, and correct girts and sub-framing within allowable tolerance so panels land flat; escalate conditions that exceed tolerance rather than absorbing them into the panel.
Install base track/starter conditions, base flashing, closures, and transitions to the air/vapor barrier in correct sequence with the building envelope scope.
Panel Handling, Setting & Installation
Receive, inspect, and stage panel bundles — check for shipping damage, verify quantities and marks against the packing list, block and store bundles per manufacturer requirements to prevent bowing, water intrusion, and edge damage.Rig and set panels using vacuum lifters, panel clamps, spreader bars, telehandlers, spider cranes, boom and scissor lifts, and swing stage as the elevation requires; use tag lines and maintain control of the panel in wind.
Install horizontal and vertical IMP systems from all major manufacturers (Kingspan, Metl-Span/Nucor, CENTRIA, AWIP, Green Span and equivalents), including concealed-fastener tongue-and-groove side joints, exposed-fastener systems, and reveal/shadow-line conditions.
Engage side joints correctly — seat the tongue fully, install butyl/sealant tape continuously without stretching or gaps, set concealed clips and fasteners at the specified spacing, and pull the joint tight without crushing the foam core or telegraphing the fastener.
Control fastener installation — correct screw type, length, and gasket for the substrate; drive to proper torque without over-driving, stripping, or dimpling the face sheet.
Maintain module and dimensional control as the wall runs — check plumb and module every few panels, manage cumulative growth or creep, and correct before it accumulates. Do not chase a bad joint down the wall.
Field-cut, notch, and fit panels at openings, penetrations, corners, and terminations using proper cold-cutting methods (nibblers, shears, track saw with metal blade); no abrasive cutting that burns the finish or leaves hot swarf on adjacent panels.
Fabricate and install trim, flashing, corner conditions, sills, heads, jambs, parapet caps, and closures — brake work, hemmed edges, mitered and soldered/sealed corners as detailed.
Install sealants and gaskets per specification — wet seal, backer rod and joint sealant, butyl tape, and factory gaskets — tooled clean and to the correct profile.
Protect the finish — isolate dissimilar metals, prevent galvanic contact and fastener bleed, avoid oil canning through improper handling or over-fastening, and remove protective film within the manufacturer's stated window before UV exposure bakes it to the coating.
Quality, Weathertightness & Closeout
Own the weatherline — understand where the air barrier, water barrier, and thermal barrier live in the assembly and never leave a joint, transition, or penetration that breaks the continuity of any of them.
Self-inspect each panel run for plumb, module, joint alignment, sealant continuity, and finish condition before moving on; correct your own work before an inspector finds it.
Participate in mock-ups, first-panel and first-elevation inspections, and water testing (AAMA 501.2 / ASTM E1105 as required); implement approved corrections.
Document and photograph concealed conditions before cover-up; complete daily production, quantity, and quality entries as directed by the Foreman. Drive punchlist to zero — walk the elevation with the Foreman, log items, and close them out promptly rather than leaving them for a return trip.
Safety
Work 100% tied off at heights per OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart M; inspect harness, lanyards, SRLs, and anchorage before each use and remove damaged equipment from service.
Operate aerial and material handling equipment only when trained, certified, and authorized; complete pre-use inspections and respect load charts, wind limits, and manufacturer restrictions.
Stop panel setting when wind, weather, or rigging conditions make it unsafe — and say so out loud. Every employee at Global has stop-work authority and will be backed for using it.
Participate in daily huddles, JHAs/pre-task plans, toolbox talks, and site-specific orientations; maintain a clean, controlled work area and proper housekeeping.
Report immediately all injuries, near misses, property damage, and unsafe conditions.
Teamwork & Jobsite Conduct
Mentor and develop apprentices and helpers — pass the craft down deliberately, not accidentally.
Communicate professionally with the general contractor, other trades, owner representatives, and inspectors. On many jobsites you are the only Global person the customer sees that day.
Coordinate with adjacent trades (steel, glazing, roofing, MEP penetrations, waterproofing) to protect sequence and prevent damage in both directions. Care for company assets — tools, equipment, vehicles, and material — and report damage or maintenance needs promptly.
