Job Summary
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is a principal technical leader responsible for defining and executing the organization’s infrastructure strategy across enterprise environments. This role drives architectural standards, ensures resilience and security at scale, and leads modernization initiatives such as cloud adoption and automation. The position partners with senior leadership to align infrastructure capabilities with business objectives, manages complex infrastructure programs, and mentors engineering teams to deliver enterprise-class solutions. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer influences technology roadmaps, enforces compliance, and champions innovation through strategic planning and thought leadership.
Essential Responsibilities
Core Infrastructure Architecture & Management
- Define enterprise architecture standards and oversee implementation across multiple environments.
- Lead multi-site infrastructure planning, capacity forecasting, and lifecycle management.
- Govern VMware ESXi/vSphere architecture and advanced automation for disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Establish standards for Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, Intune/Azure Policy, DNS, DHCP, and patch management.
Networking & Security
- Set strategic direction for network architecture and security frameworks, including zero-trust adoption.
- Oversee advanced network design (switching, routing, firewalls, IDS/IPS) and enforce encryption and hardening standards.
- Collaborate with InfoSec leadership on vulnerability management and compliance strategies.
Cloud & Hybrid Identity
- Drive multi-cloud governance frameworks and cost optimization strategies.
- Lead cloud migration initiatives and architect hybrid identity solutions with advanced Azure AD integrations.
Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Establish enterprise-wide backup and disaster recovery policies and ensure compliance through audits and testing.
- Oversee resilience planning for mission-critical systems.
Enterprise Applications & Services
- Govern high-availability architecture for Exchange (on-prem and 365), Microsoft 365, SQL Server, and related enterprise systems.
- Direct strategy for VoIP/telephony and internet services to ensure scalability and reliability.
Automation & Infrastructure-as-Code
- Define automation standards and enforce Infrastructure-as-Code practices using PowerShell, Python, Terraform, and Ansible.
- Drive organization-wide adoption of orchestration tools to optimize efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure comprehensive documentation for architecture, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee adherence to security standards and regulatory frameworks (ISO, NIST, SOC).
Collaboration & Leadership
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.
- Influence technology roadmap and participate in executive-level strategic planning.
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate enterprise contracts, and oversee infrastructure budgets.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required, along with 4–6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
- Technical Expertise:
- Mastery of enterprise networking, security, and infrastructure architecture.
- Advanced experience with VMware virtualization and Windows Server environments.
- Expertise in Active Directory, AAD, Intune, MDM, DNS, DHCP, and patch management.
- Strong proficiency with Exchange, Microsoft 365, and SQL Server.
- Advanced scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python).
- Proven leadership in cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP acceptable).
- Soft Skills:
- Strategic thinking and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Executive-level communication and leadership skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage enterprise-scale projects and budgets.
- Commitment to confidentiality and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced certifications such as Microsoft AZ-305, AZ-700, Cisco CCNP, VMware VCAP, CISSP.
- Experience leading infrastructure operations and hybrid cloud architecture.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (ISO, NIST, SOC).
- Proven ability to manage multi-million-dollar infrastructure budgets.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Knowledge of ITIL practices for service management.
- Experience with emerging technologies (containers, Kubernetes, edge computing).
- Exposure to advanced monitoring and observability tools.
- Thought leadership contributions (whitepapers, speaking engagements).
