Assistant Store Manager

Title: Assistant Store Manager


Location: Alexandria, MN


Primary Responsibilities

• Support the Store Director in overseeing daily store operations and ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers.
• Assist with leading, coaching, and developing department managers and store associates.
• Help monitor sales, labor, productivity, inventory, and store conditions to support established performance goals.
• Partner with department leaders on merchandising, product displays, promotions, seasonal items, and overall store presentation.
• Assist with employee scheduling, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
• Monitor inventory levels, product quality, rotation, pricing, shrink, and waste throughout the store.
• Help ensure store policies, food safety requirements, cash controls, safety procedures, and security standards are consistently followed.
• Build positive relationships with customers, employees, and vendors while helping resolve issues as they arise.
• Serve as a leader on duty and provide operational oversight in the Store Director's absence.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a grocery, retail, or similar customer-facing environment preferred.
• Strong understanding of store operations, customer service, merchandising, and employee leadership.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, department leaders, and vendors.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and store needs.
• Ability to lead by example and maintain a professional, positive, and team-oriented work environment.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to obtain required food safety certification and any applicable licensing.
• Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of a grocery retail environment, including prolonged standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
