Job Title Water Distribution Operator I / SGV and Fontana Water Company San Gabriel Valley Water Company and Fontana Water Company has an opening for a Water Distribution Operator I. Due to the on-call nature of the position, candidates must live within 50 miles of the location they are applying for. Job Summary Under the direction of a Water Distribution Operator III or Water Distribution Operator II, assists with the installation, repair and maintenance of the company's distribution system. Responsibilities Assist with installation and repair of water mains, fire hydrants, valves and services. Perform meter exchanges and minor meter repairs. Flush fire hydrants for water quality control. Assist with inspection and operation of gate valves. Maintain excavations until permanent paving repairs can be made. Install, relocate and adjust meter boxes and valve cans. Subject to 24-hour on-call status. Other tasks and duties as directed Qualifications Skills, knowledge and physical requirements include, but are not limited to: Some knowledge of basic plumbing repair and installation. Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools associated with plumbing repair and installation. Some knowledge of pneumatic equipment, including jackhammers and tampers. Ability to dig and work at depths in excess of 5 feet. Ability to lift 100 lbs. to waist level and maneuver equipment and implements weighing in excess of 150 lbs. Ability to perform repetitive physical activities, including sit, stand, walk, reach, grasp, push, pull, bend, stoop, climb, crouch, squat, crawl, and twist and dig. Familiarity with safety practices and procedures. Must be dependable, punctual and have good attendance. Neat and presentable appearance. Ability to interact with co-workers and supervisors in a cooperative and professional manner. Ability to communicate effectively orally and write legibly. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Education, Training and Experience The following are required: High school diploma. Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
