Pay and Incentives Firefighter/EMT: $48,426.00 annually Rescue Driver Incentive: $1,872.00 annually Dual Certified Firefighter/Paramedic: $56,926.00 annually Lead Medic on Rescue (additional $10,000): $66,926.00 annually Cleared Single Cert Paramedic: $49,060.00 annually Paramedic Trainee: $40,560.00 annually Key Details for Trainees Single Certs will be classified as a Trainee until dual certification is achieved. Single-cert hires must obtain dual certification within one year. Applicants hired as single certs will receive sponsorship to obtain dual certification. Trainee employees must agree to a two‑year commitment starting upon successful completion of dual certification. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent. Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen, physical examination, and all applicable background checks. Responsibilities This position involves protecting life and property by performing firefighting, driving apparatus, providing emergency medical aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention duties. Key duties include: Safely transporting a crew and medical equipment to the patient, assisting in immediate care, and transporting the patient to a medical facility. Performing firefighting duties including combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires. Operating and maintaining firefighting and emergency medical equipment. Responding to medical, rescue, fire, and non‑emergency calls. Driving the emergency unit to the call and/or hospital using the most expeditious route. Assisting in loading patients and transporting them to a medical facility. Ensuring the vehicle is clean, fully equipped, and in proper operating condition. Preparing reports and maintaining documentation as required. Attending and participating in company drills, training sessions, and routine station housekeeping. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Emergency medical, rescue, and fire equipment operation and maintenance. Basic life support emergency medical treatment. Fire prevention, suppression, and extinguishing techniques. Defensive driving techniques and methods. Understanding of Alachua County street systems and geography. Familiarity with departmental SOP, SOG, and Rules & Regulations. Rapid decision‑making and the ability to execute orders from a supervisor. Technical instruction following in emergency situations. Operating complex firefighting and rescue equipment. Performing prolonged and difficult work under adverse conditions. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers and other agencies. Physical Demands Regular use of hands, arms, and fine motor skills; standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Work Environment Work includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, high or precarious positions, explosives, wet or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, electrical shock, radiation, vibration, and loud noise levels.
