Career Strategy Consultants is seeking an experienced  Controls Technician for a large manufacturing client in  Carthage, Tennessee .

Reporting to the Senior Controls Technician, this position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, and programming industrial control systems to support safe and efficient plant operations. The Controls Technician will work with technologies including  PLCs, HMIs, DCS, SCADA, motion controls, and drive systems , with a particular emphasis on  Allen-Bradley controls .

This is a hands-on position for someone who is equally comfortable troubleshooting equipment on the plant floor and programming or modifying control systems. The successful candidate will also take ownership of assigned controls projects from design and installation through startup, documentation, and employee training.

Work Schedule

• Night Shift — 3 days on / 3 days off (7pm - 7am)
• Emergency on-call coverage for unplanned equipment failures as required.
• Overtime will be required periodically to support plant projects, equipment installations, and startups.

Key Responsibilities

• Promote and maintain safe work practices while performing all assigned duties.
• Program electrical and industrial control systems to support safety, quality, production, cost, and housekeeping objectives.
• Troubleshoot and calibrate electrical and control systems.
• Troubleshoot and support PLC, HMI, motion control, and drive systems.
• Perform electrical testing using digital multimeters, megohmmeters, analog source meters, thermocouple source meters, and AC/DC amp meters.
• Assist Engineering with the electrical design and implementation of new equipment.
• Develop scopes of work for equipment repairs and controls projects.
• Coordinate with plant leadership to schedule necessary equipment downtime.
• Take ownership of controls projects through design, installation, checkout, startup, documentation, and follow-up training.
• Provide safety education and expectations to contractors working within the facility.
• Ensure contractors comply with applicable safety requirements, including PPE, LOTO, arc-flash protection, energized electrical work practices, insulated tools, spotters, barriers, and applicable roof, confined-space, and hot-work permitting requirements.
• Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and other plant personnel.

• Technical training

Education & Experience

Candidates must meet  one of the following :

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology or a related field;  OR
• Four or more years of verifiable experience involving electrical PLC programming, HMI software programming, maintenance, or a closely related field;  OR
• A combination of four or more years of formal education and relevant work experience, along with verifiable controls experience.

Additional Qualifications

• Ability to troubleshoot and complete assignments under significant time constraints with minimal immediate supervision.
• Ability to provide examples of successfully completed controls or automation projects.
• Strong commitment to industrial safety and housekeeping standards.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, project management, and organizational skills.
• Willingness to take full accountability for assigned projects from initial design through implementation, startup, documentation, and training.
