IDAHO AGRICULTURE FARMING & HARVESTING OPERATIONS 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The AG Mechanic Shop Manager oversees daily operations of an agricultural equipment repair shop, supervising 6-8 mechanics and technicians. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high quality maintenance of tractors, harvesters, loaders, trucks, pumps, and other machinery used in Idaho farming and dairy operations. 

ESSENTIALS DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership & Supervision 

● Direct, supervise, and support 6-8 shop employees 

● Assign daily work orders and manage workflow during peak 

farming and harvest seasons. 

● Train employees on equipment repair, safety procedures, and 

preventive maintenance. 

● Conduct performance evaluations and assist with hiring and 

disciplinary actions. 

● Maintain a positive, safety-focused shop culture. 

EQUIPMENT REPAIR & MAINTENANCE 

● Oversee repairs for tractors, swathers, balers, loaders, skid steers, 

trucks, pumps, and harvest equipment. 

● Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine 

issues. 

● Ensure repairs meet manufacturing standards and Idaho 

agricultural safety standards. 

● Prioritize emergency breakdowns to reduce downtime during 

planting and harvest. 

SHOP OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

● Maintain organized work areas, tool control, and equipment service records. 

● Implement preventive maintenance schedules for all farm and harvest machinery. 

● Coordinate with field supervisors, dairy managers, and harvest crews to plan repair timelines. 

● Ensure compliance with OSHA agriculture safety rules and Idaho farm equipment regulations. 

PARTS, INVENTORY & PURCHASING 

● Manage inventory of parts, filters, tires, lubricants, and shop supplies. 

● Order parts from approved vendors and maintain cost-effective purchasing practices. 

● Track parts usage and maintain accurate maintenance logs. COMMUNICATION & REPORTING 

● Provide updates to management on repair status, equipment readiness, and shop workload. 

● Prepare labor and material cost estimates for repairs. 

● Maintain daily time sheets, work orders, and equipment service history. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

● 5+ years of experience in agricultural, diesel, or heavy equipment repair. 

● 2+ years of supervisory experience or lead mechanic experience. ● Strong knowledge of farm and harvest machinery, hydraulics, diesel systems, and electrical diagnostics. 

● Ability to manage workflow, prioritize repairs, and lead a 

multi-employee shop. 

● Strong communication and problem solving skills. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Experience in Idaho farming, harvesting, or dairy operations. 

● Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus, but not 

required. 

● Familiarity with maintenance tracking software. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

● Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in shop and field environments. 

● Ability to work extended hours during peak harvest seasons. 

● Exposure to noise, machinery, dust, and varying weather 

conditions. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Supports Idaho Ag Farming/Harvesting operations, including crop production, harvest activities, and dairy equipment maintenance. Seasonal demands may require 

extended hours, weekend work, and rapid response to equipment failures.
