Telemetry Technician

Position Overview:

The Telemetry Technician is responsible for interpreting rhythm strips, providing continuous patient monitoring, and observing vital signs to ensure patient safety. This role involves documenting rhythm strips, patient oxygen percentages, and performing EKGs as instructed by professional staff under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. The Telemetry Technician must demonstrate strong communication skills, particularly in emergency situations, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment. Compensation is commensurate upon education, experience, certification, and internal equity. Hiring compensation range starts from $18.05/hour.

• Compensation is commensurate upon education & experience - range is $18.05/hour or more (depending on education & experience). Benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment from the new hire orientation date. This position is a non-exempt position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret and document rhythm strips for patient monitoring.
• Observe and track patient oxygen levels, ensuring accurate documentation.
• Perform EKGs as instructed by licensed nursing staff.
• Communicate effectively with nursing staff during emergency situations.
• Maintain continuous monitoring of patient heart rhythms and vital signs.
• Respond to patient changes by promptly alerting the healthcare team to potential issues.
• Work under the supervision of licensed nurses, following healthcare protocols and procedures.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

• One year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred, but not required.

Required Registration/License/Certification:

• Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association is required a time of hire.
• Certification in EKG or Telemetry monitoring required (or must be obtained within six months of hire).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong ability to interpret heart rhythms and maintain accurate patient monitoring.
• Effective communication skills, especially in emergency and high-stress situations.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment.
• Proficiency with EKG machines and monitoring equipment.
• Knowledge of standard patient safety protocols and medical terminology.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
• May require lifting patients or equipment.
• Requires visual and auditory skills to interpret telemetry readings.

Working Conditions:

• The position involves direct contact with patients and exposure to bodily fluids.
• The work environment is a healthcare setting, which may include exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
• The role requires adherence to standard precautions and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
