Substitute CustodianTo provide custodial services to support the delivery of instruction to the students of the district and to promote exemplary care for district facilities.Reports to: Custodial Supervisor and Site AdministratorQualifications:High School diploma or equivalentDemonstrate communication skillsDemonstrate public relations skillsMinimum age of 18 yearsAbility to perform job responsibilitiesValid New Mexico Driver's LicenseMust complete a fingerprint background checkDesired Qualifications:Prior related experienceEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Follow local, state and federal law, adhere to the State Public Education Department Regulations and follow Aztec School Board PolicyClean all classrooms daily within the assigned area of the building Wash chalkboard or whiteboard dailyClean student desks weeklyEmpty trash cans dailyVacuum classroom dailyDust classroom as neededClean, sanitize, and supply bathroomsWash windows as needed.Wax floors twice a school yearClean hallway walls, lockers and stairwells monthlyUse cleaning solutions properly and safely as neededUse power equipment as needed, i.e. waxers, buffers, scrubbers, etc.Work with students, staff and parents in a positive mannerPerform minor maintenance repairs, i.e. fix jammed lockers, stuck doors, move furniture, etc.Request needed custodial supplies through the Custodial SupervisorFollow safety regulations and procedures and use personal protective equipment effectivelyReplace light bulbs as needed using no higher than a six-foot ladderPerform summer deep cleaningAssist with the relocation of furniture and equipment as neededTurn in Maintenance Work Orders using the electronic work order program for major repairsPush a supply cart throughout the building, sometimes over carpetingAssist with the routine preventative maintenance and repair of custodial equipmentMay assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activitiesEnsures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practicesReports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levelsUnlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.Operate vacuums and other related equipmentUse hand and power tools applicable to tradeLift and manipulate heavy objects, over 25 lbs.Maintain clean building entrances that are free from litterOther duties as assignedNecessary Abilities:Ability to perform tasks quickly and efficiently and follow verbal instructionsAbility to work in congested areasAbility to perform assigned duties under adverse weather conditionsAbility to maintain a positive working relationship with a variety of personalities and temperaments among school personnel, students and the publicAbility to work a flexible schedule around job responsibilitiesAbility to be mobile in a crowdAbility to stoop repetitively and climb six-foot ladders as neededWorking Conditions:Ability to perform tasks quickly and efficiently and follow verbal directionsAbility to work in wet, damp, dusty, pollen-filled and windy conditionsAbility to work around congested areasAbility to perform assigned duties under adverse weather conditionsAbility to maintain working relationship with a variety of personalities and temperaments amount other school personnel, students and publicAbility to work a flexible work schedule around job responsibilitiesAbility to be mobile in a crowdAbility to wear protective gear as neededSupervisory Responsibilities:NoneConfidentiality:Due to the sensitive nature of this position the highest degree of confidentiality is required.Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
