Position Summary & Description The Cook Honors College (CHC) in the University College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for anticipated part-time, temporary faculty position(s) for the Fall 2026 semester. The department seeks candidates whose teaching, research, and/or service have prepared them to serve all IUP students. Teaching The successful candidate will facilitate student success and engagement by teaching a two-unit, six-credit, intensive, face-to-face, discussion-based course to first-year honors students. Each unit lasts seven weeks, with four course meetings per week and a culminating thesis project based on that unit’s core question. The Unit A question is “What is the difference between belief and knowledge?” The Unit B question is “How do we discern the good from the bad.” Unit design and coursework may be approached from any discipline or multiple disciplines, so long as they address the unit questions in engaging ways. Courses may include: HONR 101 (6 credits) HONR 101 (6 credits) Develops critical thinking and communication skills through informal and formal writing, discussions, and group presentations by exploring significant human questions around knowledge, belief, values, and ethics. Analyzes major works and key ideas of literature, culture and art; synthesizes and evaluates insights from multiple sources and perspectives; formulates interpretations; and applies individual understanding to contemporary issues in an interdisciplinary seminar. Responsibilities Other duties involve participating in departmental committees and advising students. The successful candidate may be asked to work at off-campus sites and/or provide instruction through distance education asynchronously and/or synchronously through Zoom technology. Position Qualifications Required: Terminal degree in the discipline or related field, OR Master’s degree with 7+ years of related professional experience in the discipline. Experience teaching in a college setting. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Faculty members are expected to: Teach courses assigned by the department chair in accordance with departmental, college, and university scheduling requirements. Conduct classes for the required contact hours each academic term and administer final examinations or equivalent assessments as required. Present course content effectively using instructional methods appropriate to the discipline and learning objectives. Evaluate student performance accurately, fairly, and in a timely manner. Perform activities associated with laboratory instruction, fieldwork, studio courses, clinical assignments, or other experiential learning environments, when applicable. Maintain expertise in the discipline through ongoing scholarly, research, creative, and/or professional activities. Engage in service activities that support the department, college, university, profession, and community, as appropriate. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders in both written and oral formats.
