Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity PCU/CT Surgery unit at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of ICU or PCU experience and Swan-Ganz and Impella proficiency.

Job Details

• Work in a newly opening high-acuity PCU on the CT Surgery unit (7NT) of an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center and Chest Pain/Stroke Center,
• Unit is initially opening as a high-acuity PCU with 10-12 beds and will transition to an ICU by end of 2026,
• Heavy cardiac patient population including CHF, cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath, dysrhythmias, post-pacemaker/ablation, external/temporary pacers, post-CABG/open hearts, heart transplants (2-4/month), and post-vascular surgeries (AAA, fem-pops, EVARs, thoracic outlets),
• Initial patient ratio is 1:3-4; will transition to 1:2-3 upon ICU conversion (Impella patients may still be 1:3 if stable),
• 12-hour night shift (1830-0700), 36 hours per week,
• EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell,
• Every other weekend rotation required,
• 50% holiday coverage required,
• Floating may occur to other units within scope of practice (likely 7 Ardmore, 7 Reynolds, 5 Reynolds, Day Hospital, 5CC West); travelers are placed in rotation for floating,
• No on-call or call-back requirements,

Job Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand,
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS,
• Minimum 2 years of ICU or PCU experience required; CVICU experience preferred,
• Swan-Ganz (Swan) and Impella experience required,
• Proficiency in wound care and dressing changes, defibrillation, EKG interpretation, post-arrest care, cardioversions, sheath management, BiPAP/CPAP/high-flow oxygen, chest tubes, trachs, arterial lines, and vasoactive/cardiac/sedation drips required,
• Epic EMR experience required,
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position,
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration,
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN,

Additional Information

• Unit is newly opening and will initially function as a high-acuity PCU before transitioning to a full ICU; travelers will be expected to care for fresh open-heart patients once the ICU transition occurs,
• LVAD and post-cardiac transplant experience is highly preferred, but on-site training is available for those without it,
• No ECMO experience required; IABP experience will be expected once the unit transitions to ICU,
• Robust multidisciplinary support includes a non-patient-carrying charge nurse, CNA, phlebotomy, PICC team, resource nurse, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, intensivist 24/7, and resident physicians; remote telemetry techs monitor and contact the RN directly,
• Orientation includes a general hospital orientation (NEO) plus 2 unit-specific orientation shifts,
• Royal blue scrubs required; free parking available,
