Communications Coordinator (Full Time) Department: Communications & Public Relations

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Coordinator supports the cooperative’s internal and external communications through strategic storytelling across newsletters, digital channels, podcasts, social media, website content, and community events. This role creates compelling written, visual, and multimedia content that informs, educates, and strengthens relationships with members, employees, and the communities served by Coweta-Fayette EMC and True Natural Gas. This role also supports departmental planning, reporting, and administrative coordination to ensure the Communications team operates effectively and delivers measurable results. The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented storyteller with strong writing, design, and digital communication skills who thrives in a collaborative environment and can manage multiple projects with quick turnarounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Development & Newsletter Production Draft, edit, design, and coordinate production of member newsletters, employee communications, and outreach materials across print and digital formats Collaborate with the communications team to maintain the editorial calendar and ensure timely development of content priorities Manage newsletter layout and design using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva Coordinate approvals, vendor printing, mailing logistics, and Constant Contact distribution for digital newsletter subscribers Research industry trends, cooperative initiatives, and relevant data, and collaborate with management to develop story ideas and content for publication across communication channels Support creation of member email campaigns, including new member onboarding and engagement initiatives Internal Communications & Employee Engagement Create content that supports employee communications, internal campaigns, digital signage, leadership messaging, and employee-focused initiatives Assist in crisis communications and execution (including storm related events) Design internal monitor slides, announcements, and communication pieces that keep employees informed and engaged Assist with messaging for company meetings, employee events, recognition efforts, and organizational updates Community & Youth Outreach Support Develop promotional materials and communication support for community partnerships, scholarship programs, youth initiatives, school programs, and outreach campaigns In coordination with the Public Relations and Communications Manager, support the planning, promotion, and communication efforts related to the Washington Youth Tour program Assist with content creation for educational initiatives that strengthen community awareness and cooperative visibility Support event-day through set up and coverage through photography, interviews, and post-event recap content Digital Content & Website Updates Maintain website content through monthly uploads of newsletters, annual reports, blog posts, and updates to member-facing pages Assist with the development, editing and production of In the Loop, the CFEMC Podcast Assist in tracking and reporting the effectiveness of communication initiatives and prepare summary reports for management highlighting engagement, reach, and overall impact Ensure online information remains accurate, current, and aligned with cooperative messaging priorities Support content updates for seasonal campaigns, new programs, and member education resources Design, Social Media & Visual Content Create original graphics and adapt branded templates for social media, event promotions, internal communication pieces, and digital displays Support social media by drafting posts, building graphics, scheduling content, monitoring engagement, and responding to comments and direct messages Capture photography and short-form video content for use in social, website, internal, and event communications Departmental Support & Administration Support the development and execution of the Communications department work plan in coordination with leadership Provide input for the annual departmental budget, including tracking project needs and anticipated communication initiatives Prepare reports, presentations, and supporting materials for leadership and departmental planning Perform administrative functions for the Communications department, including maintaining organized electronic files, preparing documents and spreadsheets, and cataloging articles, publications, and advertising materials for the cooperative and its subsidiaries Provide communications support for annual meetings, scholarship events, employee programs, youth leadership events, and community outreach activities Participate in occasional evening and weekend events to capture content and support cooperative visibility Assist with event signage, promotional materials, on-site photography, and recap storytelling

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience 3–5 years of experience in communications, content production, public relations, marketing, or digital content support Experience in an electric cooperative, utility, or nonprofit preferred Demonstrated success supporting newsletter production, internal communications, digital content updates, social media, and event-related communications Strong proficiency in Canva, with intermediate-level Adobe Creative Suite skills, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for members, employees, leadership, and community audiences Experience creating and coordinating print-ready newsletter layouts, approval workflows, and digital email distribution Working knowledge of WordPress or similar CMS platforms for routine website updates and content uploads Ability to capture and lightly edit photography and short-form video content for event recaps, social media, website, and internal communication use Experience drafting social media posts, creating supporting graphics, scheduling content, and monitoring/responding to comments and direct messages Strong project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, shifting priorities, and fast-turn communication needs Sound judgment in balancing accuracy, speed, and clarity, especially in time-sensitive situations involving member communication, technical topics, safety, or storm response updates Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate comfortably and professionally with line crews, field teams, executives, employees, community partners, and members Highly adaptable, team-oriented, and willing to support projects beyond assigned lanes when business needs shift Self-starter mindset with high ownership, low ego, flexibility, and a willingness to learn Ability to stay current on evolving communication tools, content trends, and member engagement best practices

RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Vice President of Communications and Public Relations and is supervised by the Public Relations and Communications Manager Works closely with Digital Content Specialist and Community Relations Coordinator This position collaborates with all departments across Coweta-Fayette EMC and True Natural Gas, including operations, engineering, member services, safety, human resources, leadership, and field teams, to gather information, develop content, support internal communication efforts, and ensure timely, accurate communication with members, employees, and community stakeholders. External Relationships: Vendors, print and mailing partners, advertising agency, members, schools, civic and community groups, media outlets, Touchstone Energy, Georgia EMC, governmental organizations, and local partner organizations.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light work. Involves sitting most of the time; walking, standing, and exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Required to be available and accessible to work irregular hours during emergency situations. Requires travel both inside and outside the cooperative’s service territory. Must be willing to work flexible hours when projects or assignments warrant work outside of normal business hours. Requires talking, hearing, standing for sustained periods of time, and walking. Required to have close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe, read and edit extensively, and view a computer terminal.
