Head of Human Resources

Location: Remote, Greater Chicago

Travel: Approximately 15%

Conexus is partnering with a growing, private equity backed professional services organization to identify a Head of Human Resources. Supporting approximately 300 employees globally and expanding, this leader will build and strengthen the HR function across the corporate organization and its portfolio of operating businesses.

This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution. The ideal candidate brings experience supporting a geographically dispersed workforce, integrating acquisitions, and establishing HR practices that support growth while respecting the distinct needs of individual businesses.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with executive and business leaders on HR strategy, organizational design, workforce planning, and culture.
• Lead talent acquisition, performance management, succession planning, employee development, and engagement initiatives.
• Oversee compensation, benefits, payroll, and HR systems across multiple countries and entities.
• Guide the integration of newly acquired businesses into shared HR, payroll, and benefits platforms.
• Manage employee relations and oversee employment compliance, working with legal counsel and local experts as needed.
• Develop consistent policies and processes while accommodating local requirements and business needs.
• Lead and develop a small team of HR business partners and payroll and benefits specialists.

Ideal Background

• 12+ years of progressive HR experience, including senior leadership responsibility.
• Experience supporting employees across multiple countries and business entities.
• Demonstrated success building scalable HR infrastructure in a growing organization.
• Experience overseeing payroll, benefits, and HR operations.
• Experience supporting acquisitions and HR integration within a holding company or portfolio structure.
• Insurance, financial services, or other regulated industry experience preferred.
• Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now or comparable platforms is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, or a related field; advanced degree or HR certification preferred.

Compensation target: $175-225k plus competitive bonus
