Location:  This is an on-site position based in Gig Harbor, Washington. Occasional training at a nearby clinic may be required, including training related to HDR. Relocation assistance of up to $5,000 is available with a minimum one year commitment.

Note:  This position requires both a bachelor's degree in Physics or another natural science and a master's degree in Physics, Medical Physics, or a related field. Candidates must be comfortable working on site in a clinical radiation oncology environment.

Job Description

• Perform and oversee radiation treatment planning and determination of patient dose distributions.
• Calibrate radiation oncology treatment machines and radiation sources according to accepted clinical protocols.
• Conduct acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, and ongoing quality assurance of radiation therapy equipment.
• Generate, analyze, validate, and maintain beam data for treatment planning and clinical use.
• Ensure treatment planning systems contain accurate beam and source data.
• Develop and maintain quality assurance procedures, testing tolerances, and testing frequencies.
• Collaborate with radiation oncologists to evaluate and optimize radiation treatment plans.
• Support external beam therapy, brachytherapy, imaging systems, simulators, CT systems, and treatment planning technology.
• Oversee equipment maintenance and confirm treatment machines are safe to return to clinical service.
• Help establish treatment planning, radiation safety, and clinical workflow procedures.
• Provide medical physics education and technical guidance to physicians, therapists, dosimetrists, nurses, technical staff, and learners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics or another natural science required.
• Master's degree in Physics, Medical Physics, or a related field required.
• Clinical medical physics or radiation oncology physics experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience with treatment planning, commissioning, calibration, quality assurance, beam data, and radiation safety is highly valued.
• Medical physics residency training and ABR board eligibility or certification are preferred.
• Strong analytical, technical, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Ability to occasionally lift supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
