Associate Director Planned Giving & Trust Services

Position: Associate Director, Trust Officer Employment Category: Full-Time, Exempt (Salaried) Department: Planned Giving & Trust Services Reports to: Department Director Job Overview The Trust Officer facilitates the creation of new estate plans, trusts, and irrevocable instruments, updates existing plans, and facilitates communication between legal counsel and constituents in estate planning to further benefit the mission of the church. Responsibilities Become a Certified Trust Officer and maintain your Certification by the attending required annual training sessions. Know and follow the PGTS Standards as set forth by the NAD PGTS department. Develop an interest list from your assigned territory as people express their interest to you and follow-up on those interests to assist in establishing Estate Plan Documents for them. Coordinate with Estate Planning attorneys and Administrative Assistants in completing Estate Planning Documents. Regularly visit, preach, hold seminars, or share information at churches in your territory to help develop your interest list. Learn the Corporate structure of the Oregon Conference and know your role in facilitating business within that structure. Have regular Office hours and attend weekly PGTS staff and T.O.M. meetings. Acquire and maintain a Notary license for your territory. Help with other assigned duties involving Churches and Schools in your territory. Prepare agenda items and attend the Monthly Association Management Committee meetings. Be an active participant in Oregon Conference Office activities, like weekly worships, Director and Associate Director meetings, Camp Meeting, Social Events and other similar activities. Personal Spiritual Life The Associate Director of PG&TS should exhibit evidence of a strong spiritual life, being firmly grounded in a personal relationship with Jesus. They must be supportive of the fundamental doctrines and teachings, and the distinctive lifestyle standards of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Required Skills/Abilities Must have excellent people skills and the ability to build good-will with individuals and families. Good communication skills are required both individually and when communicating to groups of people. Is proficient in both verbal and written usage of the English language. Must be able to speak clearly to PGTS constituents with varying hearing levels. Have basic math skills and able to apply them to problems or tasks. Is able to closely follow instructions, work independently, read technical estate planning manuals, including GC Trust Services Manual. Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Must either have NAD Trust Officer Certification or be able to obtain certification within the first year of employment. Prior denominational experience as a pastor or teacher is preferred. Employment Conditions/Physical Requirements The majority of the time will be spent at a desk working at a computer or on the phone but standing and walking are also necessary. Some travel, ground and air, is required. Some occasional lifting and moving of supplies and equipment will be necessary (generally less than 25 pounds). Elected Office Position All positions of employment for department director and associate department director in the Oregon Conference are elected and confirmed by the Oregon Conference Executive Committee. This committee is elected every five years by the Oregon Conference constituency and are tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the operation of the Conference during the five-year term.
