Athletic Trainer

Essential Functions Acts as a key member of the Orthopedic Sports Med Program, providing athletic training services both within the clinic and in community settings. Supports physicians, patients, coaches, and athletes through assessment, treatment, education, and coordination of care. Community Outreach Responsibilities Provides athletic training services to affiliated high schools and Young Athletes Academy partners, focusing on injury prevention, performance enhancement, and safe return to play. Oversees program development with current and new strategic partners and ensures the Emergency Action Plan is up-to-date and reviewed with athletic directors, coaches, and athletes. Prevents, recognizes, and evaluates athletic injuries; implements preventive and rehabilitation programs using therapeutic modalities and treatments. Attends practices and athletic events to deliver sideline and emergency medical coverage, including baseline concussion testing. Provides therapeutic treatments such as taping, wrapping, and bracing for prevention and protection. Consults with licensed physicians on injuries and treatment plans for athletes and patients. Assists physicians with educational presentations on injury prevention and nutrition. Maintains daily records of treatment logs, injury reports, and doctor’s referrals. In-Office Clinic Responsibilities Prepares patient examination rooms prior to visits, ensuring proper equipment and supplies are available and cleans exam rooms afterward. Extends patient escort to exam rooms, measures and records vital signs, documents medication, and reconciles medications by history. Conducts initial screens, reports patients’ concerns and symptoms, and communicates findings to licensed clinic personnel. Performs templated/protocolled pre‑charting, in‑clinic documentation, and scribing under physician direction. Conducts routine examinations and treatment procedures, including bandage and dressing changes, suture and cast removal, wound cleaning, medication application, and site disinfection. Provides patient education on individualized home exercise programs and, when appropriate, coordinates with physical therapy. Assists physical therapists during Sports Motion Analysis assessments and injury prevention exercises with electromyography. Provides physician support for patient phone consultations and documentation. Coordinates care for patients needing assistance accessing and managing their health‑care needs. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in a work‑related discipline from an accredited institution. Experience: None required. Licenses and Certifications: BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer) Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) or RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Knowledge and Skills Customer service skills for high-volume, stressful interactions with patients, families, and staff. Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus. Problem‑solving and solution‑identification skills. Effective verbal and written communication at an appropriate professional level. Maintenance of medical records in compliance with HIPAA standards. Recognition of life‑threatening situations and provision of appropriate emergency aid. Proficiency with therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation and exercise equipment, and preventive treatments such as taping and bracing. Computer and software proficiency relevant to the functional area. In-depth knowledge of athletic training principles, conditioning, injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation. Pay Range Compensation is based on the role’s level and requirements, and may be influenced by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and internal equity. Typically, new team members are hired at the minimum to mid salary range.
