Nurse Manager, RN - Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit - Mount Sinai Rivington - Day Shift Mount Sinai Rivington – Day Shift – Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit – Bring your clinical leadership to a unit dedicated to advanced geriatric behavioral care. Overview The Nurse Manager leads nursing practice and operations on a designated unit/service. Responsibilities include clinical nursing practice, staff recruitment and retention, labor relations, supply chain and budget, staffing, performance evaluation, quality improvement, staff education, medical records, and regulatory and survey requirements. The role collaborates with the Nursing Clinical Director, unit dyad partner, and staff to ensure the highest standards of patient care. Responsibilities Lead nursing practice using the Professional Practice Model of Relationship Centered Care and the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing. Demonstrate proficiency in Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR)/Care Checks and model expected behaviors. Integrate Care Checks/PHR into clinical activities, ensuring staff perform Care Checks on all patients by direct observation and patient feedback. Assess staff competency in Care Checks/PHR and provide consistent, meaningful feedback. Conduct daily patient rounding (Monday‑Friday) and weekly staff rounding. Communicate quantitative and qualitative patient experience and staff engagement data to the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team, driving action plans. Collaborate with the physician dyad, escalating concerns as appropriate. Follow up on patient concerns timely, providing service recovery as needed. Model caring, respectful, compassionate, empathic listening through dialogue, body language, and actions. Facilitate Communication Huddle with staff at shift start, identify high‑risk patients, and escalate for resolution. Initiate service recovery for patients and families, escalating to Nursing Director, Patient Relations as needed. Interpret, communicate patient experience scores and benchmarks, keeping staff informed of progress. Empower staff to use evidence‑based practices to increase understanding of patients’ perceptions of care. Lead interdisciplinary quality improvement teams using high reliability principles. Design, support, and lead a safe, therapeutic, patient‑centered care environment. Investigate practice/operations issues, participating in RCA and implementing corrective action plans. Participate in unit and hospital quality, patient safety, and patient experience process improvement initiatives. Utilize Lean methodology for process improvement through daily management boards. Foster a fair, open Just Culture encouraging error and near‑miss reporting. Review unit progress, changes, and compliance with quality and safety metrics with clinical nurses and team members. Respond to escalations of potential safety hazards or gaps, correcting concerns following institutional protocol. Monitor IT infrastructure and correct gaps in clinical nurse documentation. Lead staff participation in quality and safety initiatives and mandated compliance measures. Maintain nursing unit compliance with all regulatory agency mandates, including NYS DOH and the Joint Commission. Oversee 24‑hour patient care delivery, throughput, staffing, and processes to ensure efficient operations. Implement and monitor unit budgets, including capital equipment allocation, budget variances, and OT and vacancy management. Maintain control of nursing equipment and supplies, ensuring availability and maintenance. Assure all staff meet orientation goals, weekly progress reports, annual competency requirements, and participate in the Competency Planning Tool. Conduct regular staff meetings, communicating progress and compliance with hospital policies and procedures. Encourage, recognize, and reward staff participation in quality and safety initiatives and successes. Facilitate organizational change initiatives, using effective strategies. Lead shared decision‑making model by establishing a structure of shared governance, just culture, and staff engagement. Interpret and implement collective bargaining agreements affecting staff. Respond to protest of assignment and discuss resolution in staff meetings. Participate in staffing planning committees to meet NYS mandatory staffing requirements. Qualifications 3‑5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience demonstrating solid management abilities. Proven clinical and nursing administrative expertise in the assigned nursing practice area. Critical thinking and organizational skills essential. Relevant clinical expertise in the specialized field required. Licensing and Certification Requirements (if Applicable) Registered Nurse – Licensed by New York State Department of Health. Child Abuse Certification required. Infection Control Certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required for ED; PACU/ASU; ICUs; Telemetry Units; SDU; IR, Interventional Cardiology. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required for ED; PACU; IR; Peds ICU; APN Pediatric Oncology. Professional Board Certification in leadership or clinical specialty preferred. Compensation Salary range: $115,494 – $173,241 annually. Salary depends on experience, education, and operational need. Bonuses, incentive, or differential pay not included.
