Vulcan Materials Company is the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials including asphalt and ready‑mixed concrete. This position focuses on supervising the daily operations, maintenance, and repair activities within the pit area. Responsibilities Supervision of day‑to‑day operations, maintenance, and repair activities. Report to the Plant Manager and assist in managing the pit workforce. Responsible for SHE, quality assurance, employee relations, cost control, and budgeting activities. Planning: Ensure team members have radios, tools, and safety equipment at the beginning and during the workday. Daily Tasks: Conduct job briefings, maintain radio communication, and evaluate team member performance. Ordering Parts: Order parts only with approval from the Plant Manager. Scheduling: Manage the schedule for loading of the trains arriving at the site. Managing Budgets: Ensure the operating area works within a defined budget, manages costs within guidelines, and generates operating and project budgets. Safety: Enforce safety and company policies, conduct pre‑shift safety briefings, ensure PPE usage, conduct hazard assessments, and promote a safety‑first culture. Pit Operation: Oversee pit and stripping area operations, and pit primary equipment repair and maintenance; coordinate work across pit areas and implement development plans with engineering. Production: Ensure production levels run at optimum with minimal downtime and mobile equipment is operated correctly. Leadership: Build relationships with suppliers and vendors, provide strong leadership, maintain open communication, motivate staff and ensure tasks are completed by others. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience: Prior supervising production employees preferably at an aggregate, sand/gravel, or asphalt plant. Leadership & Management Skills: Provide strong leadership and mentorship to direct and indirect reports, motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships. Operational Knowledge: Understand rock and sand mining, ready‑mix concrete, and/or asphalt operations and equipment; familiarity with MSHA regulations, engineering principles, quality control systems, and procedures. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communicator, effective team builder, foster strong relationships with internal and external audiences. Financial Knowledge: Knowledge of financial performance, achievement of targets, and exceeding performance goals. Working Conditions: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.
