Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for Veterans Services

MSS is excited to contract a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to conduct Compensation & Pension Exams (C&P) for our military Veterans. This position is located in Honolulu, HI, and offers a rewarding opportunity to support those who have served our country. Contract Duration: 1 Year with an option to extend. Start Date: ASAP with quick credentialing for training and onboarding. Hours: Full‑Time, Monday to Friday (8 AM to 5 PM). Location: Honolulu, HI. Pay: Highly competitive hourly rate! Contract Overview Your role will support the Veterans Benefits Administration's Medical Disabilities Examinations program. You will conduct exams designed to address Veterans' health inquiries. These exams will take place at facilities catering to a substantial Veteran population, ensuring a high volume of patients. The C&P exams aid the VA in understanding Veterans' current health statuses. Please note: Practitioners will not determine disability percentages, develop treatment plans, or prescribe medication. All completed documentation will be forwarded to the VA for final decisions on disability claims. Before conducting exams, you will review Veterans' medical or mental health histories to prepare appropriately. The examination process is facilitated through a web‑based form to efficiently capture responses during the appointment. Documentation, known as a Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ), must be submitted promptly (within 48 hours) after each exam. The number of DBQs per exam may vary depending on the Veteran’s claimed conditions. Time is allocated for administrative tasks to ensure documentation is timely and accurate. All documentation will be reviewed by a medical team for compliance and quality assurance. Remember, requests for changes must be made within 48 hours post‑exam. You will provide one‑time, non‑treatment compensation and pension exams. The exam duration may range from 45 minutes to several hours, depending on the claimed disabilities, with estimates provided prior to appointments. Types of Exams Common assessments may include musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory examinations. Ancillary services like X‑rays, labs, EKGs, PFTs, and ABIs can be arranged on‑site or nearby. Education and Qualifications Qualified candidates must hold a master's degree in Nursing (NP) or have successfully completed an approved Physician Assistant (PA) program. Experience in primary care is essential, and candidates should be actively licensed to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability are also required. Basic computer proficiency is necessary. While experience with compensation exams or the VA is preferred, it is not mandatory, as comprehensive Module Training will be provided.
