Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Medical Director View Hospital

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Medical Director View Hospital provides clinical and operational leadership for inpatient psychiatry services at View Hospital, including program development, direct patient care, quality oversight, interdisciplinary coordination, and support of the academic mission of UCR School of Medicine. The successful candidate must possess an M.D. or equivalent degree, be board certified and/or eligible to practice in the State of California by the time of employment. Applicants must qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and UCR affiliated hospitals. The full salary range for the Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist positions are:

-Associate Physician Diplomate (board certified + 1 year exp): $163,400 - $400,300; expected pay scale for this position is up to $330,000 annually.

-Associate Physician (board eligible + 1 year exp): $142,100 - $348,100; expected pay scale for this position is up to $315,000 annually.

-Assistant Physician (board eligible): $123,500 - $302,600; expected pay scale for this position is up to $290,000 annually.

These annual rates are at 100% FTE appointment. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure, certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Additionally a concurrent administrative appointment will be proposed. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Educational Requirements

Possession of the education and legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. - Required

MD or DO from an accredited institution. - Required

Experience Requirements

Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program. - Required

Board Certification in Psychiatry - Required

Must meet UC and affiliated hospital credentialing requirements. - Required

Demonstrated clinical experience in inpatient psychiatry. - Required

Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry - Required

Experience providing care in adult inpatient psychiatry and/or child & adolescent inpatient psychiatry settings. - Preferred

Prior leadership experience in inpatient behavioral health, psychiatric service lines, or hospital-based psychiatry programs. - Preferred

Experience in behavioral health inpatient and outpatient settings. - Preferred

Experience in program development, clinical operations, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. - Preferred

Experience in academic medicine, clinical teaching, and mentorship of learners. - Preferred

License Requirements

Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Medical Board. - Required

Maintenance of California Medical License and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) prescribing number. - Required

Certification Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. - Required

Eligible to sit for board certification in a relevant care specialty as determined by the American Board of Medical Specialists. Board certification required within 18 months of hire. - Required

Special Conditions

Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. - Required

Preferred Qualifications

Computer proficiency and first-hand experience in using electronic health records systems to document patient interactions and coordinate care.

UCR is recruiting a full-time Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry to provide clinical and operational leadership for Adult and Child & Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry services at View Hospital. The role will support program development, direct patient care, quality and regulatory initiatives, interdisciplinary collaboration, and service line growth. This position will also contribute to the academic mission through teaching and mentorship, as appropriate, while helping build a high-quality inpatient psychiatry program aligned with the mission of UCR School of Medicine and its clinical partners.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership and Patient Care: Provide direct inpatient psychiatric care for adult and child/adolescent patients, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and coordination with interdisciplinary teams. Oversee clinical workflows and support safe, high-quality patient care. - 60%

Program Development and Medical Direction: Lead the development and implementation of the inpatient psychiatry service line, including clinical protocols, care pathways, operational workflows, and collaboration with hospital and faculty leadership to support program growth and launch readiness. - 20%

Communication and Care Coordination: Partner with patients, families, guardians, case management, social work, and community providers to support continuity of care, discharge planning, and effective transitions across settings. - 10%

Teaching and Academic Engagement: Support the academic mission through teaching, mentorship, and participation in educational activities for medical students, residents, and other trainees, as applicable. - 10%
