Manager Trainee

Job Summary Under general supervision, this position is responsible for learning the management of a small driver count and/or non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends), ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, load assignment, and providing best‑in‑class customer service. The role includes training to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and overseeing all drivers' compliance and company regulations while coordinating with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight and loads. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers, ensuring seamless new carrier set‑up and minimizing turnover while maximizing productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and support special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability. Utilize personnel management skills, including training and orientation of drivers and other employees, and assist with internal and third‑party system usage. Maximize fleet efficiency and profitability, make continuous improvement recommendations, measure key performance indicators, and create, maintain, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis during face‑to‑face interactions at customer locations. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, net‑revenue budget management, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing, resolving pay issues, analyzing P&L statements, invoicing, and creating operational or financial reports. Oversee yard operations: inspect equipment, replace parts, coordinate repairs, and schedule preventive maintenance to keep equipment ready and safe. Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service, routing, mechanical, and accessorial pay issues on the fly and when on call. Maintain the company's safety culture: deliver daily driver safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforce DOT compliance and safety policies. Assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movements to ensure safe, on‑time service, meet customer requirements, and manage freight exceptions and driver ETA adjustments. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field, or High School Diploma/GED with at least one year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or related field, or equivalent military experience. Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable. Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends. Willingness to relocate regionally depending on account assignment. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing a team. Problem‑solving skills to anticipate and resolve organizational, operational, or process issues. Compensation The expected starting pay range is $53,000–$79,500 per year. Pay may vary within this range based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. The role may include an annual bonus and incentives tied to profitability or volume, subject to company plans in effect at the time of hire.
